  • Great bass
Great project and bass for $170. It is heavy, but feels nice in your lap. Only played about 45 minutes with a strap standing, but it wasn’t bad. The tuners are not great. A little grease helps, but I would recommend replacing them. The bass plays well after a couple small turns on the truss rod and few adjustments on the bridge. The pick ups are wired in series which makes the 3rd position on the switch useless. When you flip to 3rd position it cuts all sound. I will have to fix that. It was pretty easy to put together. The fret board needed some lemon oil, but feels nice. It’s 34 inches bass from nut to saddle. Probably not comfortable if you have small hands. Definitely not for kids. It looks cool and plays great with a little setup. I’m sure replacing pickups, tuners, and bridge with a good set up and it would be really good. Great kit if you’re looking for something to mod. The binding is not uniform, so makes finishing a little tricky. I love the bass and it looks super cool. ... show more

  • Don’t bother
Don’t bother. Where do I begin? I stripped several screws. The neck doesn’t fit and if it does get forced in -it will crack. You can see what happened when I tried to remove it to fix it. Since I had to paint and finish the instrument, it took m a few weeks before I got to this point. Seller considers that over a month long, though i received the kit less than a month ago. Screw pilot holes are OFF- this does not allow for the instrument to assemble correctly. I asked for a replacement neck- and they couldn’t offer one for me. The decorative string cover mounts way too close to the strings and is -quite frankly- just not usable. Pick ups are noisy. I felt the need to replace the bridge that came with it, as well as one of the pick ups. I also bought a Bolton kit for the neck because it’s glued on- and- again- does not fit without some work. Really nice assembly manual though but they should’ve spent more money on the build quality. This is the last kit I’m buying. Total turn off for the whole concept. ... show more

  • Rickenbacker kit, with my attempt at a fireglo finish.
I just finished my bass kit. I am very satisfied with the quality and ease of build. I have always loved the Rickenbacker 4001 bass, but could not afford to get one, so when I seen this kit was available at a very affordable price, I had to snag one. I figured, if it wasn't a very good bass, I wasn't going to be out a whole lot of money. But after receiving my Leo Jamze ric kit, that thought just went away. I just got the strings put on this morning, and it needs final adjustments, but I can tell that I am going to love playing this bass guitar. ... show more

  • Great kit!
This was my first kit and I could not be happier with the outcome. I purchased a Rickenbacker truss rode cover separately and it looks amazing.

  • Cheap screws. Over OK though.
It’s ok. Be careful installing the single coil. These screws are fragile. We had one snap off half way into the wood.

  • If you do try and mod it, remember it has a binding around it that you will have to remake, as well
I like the fact that they kinda made the effort to do a Richie, but they cut off the top and bottom horn. I had to reconstruct them with wood putty and Im not sure it's even gonna work. Ill let you know... UPDATE: So I have never run into moisture within the body of the wood. I sanded, treated, premiered, put at least 6 or 7 Colortone coats and noticed the paint wasn't drying,.....ugh! Took it down to the bare wood thinking it was something within the layers I had put, but it wasn't. Looking closer to the bare wood I could see dark spots forming. I guess I am going to have to wait months to let it dry. I bought a bunch of silica jell packs to stuff in a case with it. Wish me luck ... show more

  • Routed wrong and requires excessive fixing
I want to start this review off by saying I have built a couple kits before, including the leo jaymz MLX, and that kit has zero problems. However, this bass kit is a total pos. The neck pocket is too small and/or the neck is too thick to properly seat it in. Thats always the first thing I check. I've been sanding for about a half hour or so taking light passes as to not over cut. Upon trying to check the fitting I hear some cracking, the body cracking. Before even confirming the fit of the neck I now am going to have to take even more time to figure out how to seal this crack (IN THE NECK JOINT) instead of building the kit itself. Frankly I'm tempted to just return the damn thing, but I want the Ric sound. So I'll update this review if I ever finish this and/or return it ... show more
