I have been wanting a cheaper toss-about guitar to take camping, to carry on my bike to the park, keep in my tent at music festivals, and other such things, where I wouldn't want to take one of my nice guitars -- as well as a guitar that I could practice adjustments and modifications on without risking my nicer guitars -- and I heard good things about this guitar, so I decided it was cheap enough to risk it. I just received it today, so this review is based on only a few hours of playing with it, but here are my first impressions: Appearance: The finish looks nice. From a distance it looks perfect, and even up close you'd have to really try hard to find even the slightest flaws -- there was one tiny scratch on the fingerboard around the 21st fret, but even knowing its' there I'd have to search to find it again. The blue sparkle finish looks great, and I only found one tiny pinhole sized flaw on the back. If I were to put it side by side with my $3500 American made Fender Stratocaster and covered the logos somebody who knew nothing about guitars would probably have a hard time telling which was which at first glance. Playability and setup out of the box: A good setup is very important for a guitar, and no matter how expensive it is they often need adjustment when new. Out of the box the neck had a small amount of relief (a slight bow in the center, which you want), but the action (string heights) was high making it play OK but not great on the lower frets, but harder to play up high. I gave the truss rod 1/4 turn to increase the relief (a bit more bow in the neck) and lowered the action of each string by two full turns and still have zero fret buzz (where the strings vibrate against the metal frets on the neck), I could probably go another 1/4 to 1/2 turn, but it's already comfortably low and plays WAY easier now. I couldn't find my radius gauge to measure the radius, so I had to eyeball the exact action, but it's very comfortable without buzzing, so I'm happy with it how it is now. The frets are cut very consistently with nice smooth rounded edges (no sharp edges to catch your fingers!), and there were no low or high frets -- the alignment was spot on perfect. The intonation (tuning when playing further down the neck) was very good on 4 of the strings, and slightly off on 2 of the strings -- again, a very easy adjustment. The pickup height looks a bit low to me, but I'm not very familiar with the ideal height on those, so I left them alone -- the tone was just fine as is. The nut slots are cut perfectly with no catching and the height is consistent and good. If you know somebody who plays (e.g. a teacher) and is willing to help with some minor adjustments it can go from an OK playing to quite decent playing guitar with about 15 minutes of adjustments. I was having a lot of fun playing it. That said, when I switched back to the aforementioned $3500 American made Fender Stratocaster there was an instant and obvious difference, so let's not pretend that $125 comes close. Tone/Sound: The guitar has good sustain. Played acoustically the notes ring out clear and for a decently long time. Amplified w/ a clean tone and little gain they'll ring for a good 5 seconds on the high strings and 15 or so on the low strings. The pickups are single coil, but when connected to a good amp I don't hear much hum unless I get too close to my phone or other electronics (some hum is to be expected, and for some people even desired). Again, my actual Fender Strat sounds worlds better, but this one is by no means unpleasant. The combined positions seem to give the best tone, which isn't too surprising. I play mostly clean tones and it's enjoyable to listen to. I also tried it with some heavy overdriven tones and it sounded good. Mechanical/Electrical bits: The tuning stability is acceptable, but not great. DO NOT use the tremolo -- the tuning goes completely out with just the most minor touch of the trem bar -- throw it in the trash, do not be tempted to try it. My first mod is going to be to block the trem to lock it to improve the tuning stability since I never use it anyway. The tuner pegs work, but have a little bit of play and inconsistency to them. It's not hard to get it in tune, but better tuner pegs would be a great upgrade. The volume and tone knobs turn very smoothly. The volume knob has a nice linear and predictable behavior, but the tone knobs barely affect anything are seem more decorative than anything. The output jack has a nice tight fit, but feels weird to me as it's angled out more than the jack on the real strat, so it's hard for me to find the right angle. The pick guard looks like it's a 3 ply guard, and seem to be of decent quality. The included strings feel like they're 9s, so a nice light and easy to play gauge. A number of years ago I bought a Fender branded Chinese made "Starcaster", which was supposed to be their budget Stratocaster line... it was complete junk compared to this thing and I ended up giving it away, mechanically and electrically it was garbage and I hated every second playing it. Included Accessories: The tuner looks great, but unfortunately I don't trust it. Compared to my other tuners it says I'm out of tune when every one of my other tuners says I'm in tune. Tested with my digitial piano which theoretically would be perfectly tuned it gives inconsistent results when pressing the same key -- always saying I'm too high the first time, then saying I'm in tune the second time. I don't trust it, which is too bad because it has a nice display and has guitar/ukelele/violin/chromatic modes. The strap is... well, it's a strap. Not the most comfortable strap I've used, but it does the job. Some cheap strap locks would have been a nice addition. Straps are cheap, and you'll probably want to get something that matches your style anyhow. The picks are garbage. A variety pack of different shapes and sizes of name brand picks costs like $5, so pick up some nice ones. I've not used the string winder/cutter, but it looks like garbage -- just filler. The capo feels very nice and works well, a nice piece to include. I've not tried the cable, but it's probably OK. The little mini amp (I got the model with the amp that plugs directly into the guitar) isn't anything exciting, but it allows you to hear what you're playing. You'll want a nicer amp soon if this is a first guitar. Even though it's adjustable, it does not plug into my real strat because of the aforementioned output jack angle difference -- it interferes with the body of the guitar -- but I had zero intention of ever using it with my nicer guitars anyhow. It'll be good to keep in the gig bag for when I don't have anything else, but I'll usually carry a nicer portable practice amp. And as for the gig bag, I"ll be looking for a used hard case. The bag is extremely thin and provides minimal if any protection. The "padding" layer sounds like it's filled with crinkly plastic and is very noisy -- not pleasant at all. It'll do the job for a short while, but it's going to be replaced ASAP. Summary: This punches above its weight class.... I have no major gripes. If you can get somebody to help you make some easy adjustments, or are willing to follow some youtube videos and give it a try yourself, it's a pleasant budget guitar. I'm extremely happy with it so far and think it'll serve its intended purpose very well.

I have played acoustic guitar for a few years, and decided to try an electric. I am not an expert on electric guitars, but reasonably informed. This is one of the best deals, even the guitar store full of snobs I frequent said it was a solid guitar. The good: Sturdy, high quality, and very good looking guitar. This company doesn't make a lot of guitars, they make amps and accessories, but they really understood how to make a nice entry-level guitar. It comes with a strap, tuner, strings, pics, a string cutter tool that winds your strings as well, and a gig back. It also comes with a 5w amp that plugs directly into the guitar. I thought this would be a problem, but it is out of the way and sounds great! I was also worried that I wouldn't have the sound level or quality that I wanted, but I can play it loud enough for everyone in my 1900 sq. ft. apartment to hear. I would buy this again in a heartbeat! Cons: There is no supporting documentation. If you don't know how to string a guitar, or any technical issue, you will need to look it up or youtube. The strings it comes with sound fine, but I broke 3 strings (had to buy another set of strings completely), so I would buy some extra. They aren't the best quality.
