I bought this as a gift for a group activity and very first use we set the dial to two to be cautious and even that melted its own buttons off and then after turning it off it never turned on again didn't even melt the first batch all of the way not only is this poor quality but it's dangerous. This soap making kit is cute and has what you need to try soap making as a total beginner and in small batches. There are dyes, fragrances, a silicone mould, and enough soap base to make a total of 6 bars of soap. The pot to melt the soap in is tiny, and very thin walked, which means it heats up quickly so you do need to stir pretty constantly, and be safe. There are 3 bags of soap base, and one bag can make 2 bars. The kit comes with 3 fragrances (lavender, rose, orange) and 3 dyes (red, yellow, blue). The instructions are fine. And a long spoon for stirring. I made 2 scents, lavender and lemongrass. I used essential oils I already had for the fragrance, I used the dyes from the kit to color them (red and blue to make purple, and yellow). You do have to use a lot of dye to get a good color. I also added dried herbs (not included in the kit) to the bars I made. The soap sets up super quickly, so it's a great option for last minute gift ideas! This is a good intro to soap making before getting into the chemistry of the actual saponification with lye and oil, since this kit includes a soap base that is already saponified. I am a soapmaker by trade, and my 7-year-old granddaughter always wants to help. I don't like her being around those chemicals and am always afraid I will have to start over when she "helps." When I saw this kit I grabbed it knowing it would be perfect to use with her. And boy, was I right! This is an all-inclusive kit full of great supplies. It surpassed my expectations. I will admit that we had so much fun making the soap that I contributed some additional melt and pour soap. But there is quite a bit of soap in this kit. We made many bars of soap - with the colors they give you, you can create any color you want. (They supply red, yellow and blue.) The essential oils aren't very strong, which is good. My granddaughter had so much fun controlling her own soap experiments - and that was fine with my supervision and answering the occasional question. The kit is full of everything one needs to make several bars of soap. The mold is rectangular. I wish they would have included another mold, but the one we got was sufficient for our needs. My only other suggestion is that using a rubber spatula to work with the hot soap is better than using the spoon they include. The spoon is a nice touch, but it isn't practical. A rubber spatula will make things much easier. My granddaughter was enthralled with this gift. If you are interested in dipping your toe into soap making or have a young one who is interested in the art of making soap, this is the kit for you! I love that this kit goes on and on - after you use the soap included in the kit, you can buy more melt and pour bases. You can expand your essential oils or soap fragrances collection for very reasonable prices. You will already have everything you need to make the soap. This is a nice soap making kit, everything you will need to make soap in this kit. It comes with 3 oils-rose, lavender, orange. I purchase additional oils and made some awesome smelling soap. I have really sensitive skin and this soap does not irritate me at all. 3 dyes-blue, yellow, red. You can make any color you want out of these dyes. The hot plate heats up slow so the soap doesn’t burn, I am really impatient and had I used any other method to Melt the soap I would have definitely ruined it. My son was really excited to make soap and couldn’t wait to use some he was very impressed with how easy it was. This would make a great gift or fun family project. Highly recommend ... show more
