  • A book for people who want to install there own sounds and not sure how
This book I found very easy to read and mostly in Laymans language . It is a book very much suited to all whom want to install but are a bit hesitant ,because they are not quite sure of the requirements and layout options available on the market. Alan explains all the options from the straight forward to the more involved. I got a good grasp of what I was buying by reading the book. As Alan advises and I do to it pays to read a book like this prior to purchasing a system as it will give you a better understanding of what you think and what you actually want in a system ... show more

  • Informative book
There's a wealth of information in this book, neatly broken down into manageable chapters, and presented in a conversational way. It feels like the author is patiently explaining each aspect of the subject while offering his thoughts and suggestions along the way. And despite the word "Basics" in the title, there are a number of advanced topics touched on too. I think the editing detracts a little from the presentation, but overall this is a nice introduction to modern home theater ... show more

  • A "Must Read" for any of us who had families and jobs that removed us from the custom electronics and media sources pool several years ago.
There have been a lot of changes and improvements in the last few years and this book touches on them. The author even goes into the basics of explaining how to setup your surround sound home theater. A very good read.

  • Total waste of time. But at least it was short...
If you've ever plugged in a receiver and connected speakers, then this book is too remedial for you. Honestly, I fail to see for what audience this book would be useful. I was hoping to find a resource that would shed a little light on things like impedance and other key considerations for matching components. Or how to think about a sub-woofer in a mixed system, etc. This book simply didn't do anything more than list the components and tell you in the most superficial terms what they do and how to use them. ... show more

  • Short and Sweet
This book wil not make you a certified home theater technician. But if you want to be able to set up your own home system and feel confident that you're doing it right, this is the book. No unnecessary filler information that I could care less about. The book explains what to do and why you do it. I recommend it. ithttp://www.bing.com:80/images/search?q=Woman+child%27s+grave&id=DABDEEFAAF94072919B10DB61958D49704C3A44B&FORM=IQFRBA ... show more
