This sturdy, well designed, and solidly built lawn aerator is easy to use. It feels heavy duty but is lightweight enough to carry around and be easily manageable. It arrives in several pieces but is quick and easy to assemble with the provided tools. Two crescent wrenches are included to allow you to grip with one while turning with the other. A few extra spikes are also provided. You use your weight to step on the upper platform, pushing the spikes into the soil. If you do it after a rain or water the ground first, the spikes penetrate more easily. It springs back quickly, the spikes being cleaned of soil as they retreat up through the lower platform. The handle height is quickly adjustable by about 4 inches. It would take a long time to do a large area with this tool, but for loosening small patches of soil this is a perfect size. I've been using it on bare patches in my yard where the soil is compacted to help with seeding new grass or ground cover there. I also use it to loosen the soil for easier weeding and for adding drainage to the drip-line around bushes and trees so it's a fairly versatile tool. This was $17 when I ordered it, an amazing bargain for this solidly built tool. I see that the price has now gone up to $40 but it's still well worth the investment for this handy tool that will save your back.

This does exactly what it's intended for however, this will take alot of time and patience. If you have a small yard, this will be perfect for you and especially if you are looking to work out your legs while you are at it. If you have knee or foot problems or you have a large yard, then you may want to look elsewhere. I wanted something that I could use as needed as I have a few areas that are packed down and I tend to get alot of weeds in those areas. I watered the lawn really good before using to soften the soil and this worked like a charm. This is still going to take some work but I was prepared for that before hand. I felt is was well made and very durable. I had no issues with the quality of the product at all.

I used the lawn aerator tool in my yard where the soil gets compacted, especially near the walkway and the areas where people step often. Before using it, I watered the lawn a little so the ground was softer. Then I pressed the spikes into the soil with my foot, lifted it up, and moved across the grass section by section. The 15 spikes help cover a decent area with each step, so the work feels faster than using a smaller tool. I also like the dual-layer design because it helps reduce clogging. Some wet soil still sticks occasionally, but it is much easier to clear than older spike tools I have tried. The tool feels sturdy enough for regular yard care, and the manual design gives me good control around garden beds and uneven spots. After using it, the lawn looked a little rough at first, but that is normal with aeration. I plan to use it before watering and fertilizing, so the grass roots can get better air and moisture. For compact soil and basic lawn maintenance, it feels useful and practical.

I have been in the market for a lawn aerator for some time. I have several patches of lawn that need aereting due to the Texas heat baking the ground hard . That also leads to less grass growing in those areas. So I wanted an aerator to break that soil up and hopefully lead to more grass growing there. This tool does the job I wanted with ease. The aeretor arrives in three easy to assemble pieces--the handle, the spike apparatus, and pole. You can quickly assemble the tool, the handle snaps into the pole which you then affix to the spike apparatus with included wrenches. It took me less than five minutes. Included are five replacement spikes. The spike box is already assembled. To use the aerator you simply step on the top of the spike box, it pushes down into the earth about four inches, then retract when you take your foot off the box. The spikes clean themselves as they pull up so you don't have remove any caught dirt. I find the tool works well and is very easy to use with little exertion. I would suggest using it after a rain as the earth is softer and easier to puncture. Not only is the tool easy to use, it is affordable. I am very happy with it and hope it will help me bring my yard back into the shape I desire.

I’m a DIY’er and like fixing up my own yard, and this aerator is uncomplicated and gets the job done. It’s solid in the hand and the spikes dig into compact soil, but I found it most helpful doing it after a good rain. Once you get into a rhythm, it’s pretty satisfying seeing the little plugs of soil come up. Overall, it’s a straightforward, no-frills manual tool to take care of your lawn.
