Lawn aeration is one of those maintenance tasks that makes a measurable difference in turf health but often gets skipped because renting a core aerator or hiring a service is an expense and scheduling hassle that is easy to postpone. Lawn aerator shoes are a manual DIY alternative that lets you aerate while walking your yard, and I tested these through the Vine program across a couple of aeration sessions before writing this up. The design is a spike-style aerator that attaches over your existing footwear with adjustable straps. Unlike plug aerators that remove soil cores, spike aerators push tines into the soil to create channels for water, air, and fertilizer to penetrate the root zone. Both methods are beneficial, though core aeration is considered more effective for heavily compacted soil. For maintenance aeration on established turf that is not severely compacted, spike aeration done regularly provides meaningful benefit. The key feature that sets this pair apart from lower quality alternatives is the pre-assembled adaptable strap system. On cheaper aerator shoes, the straps require threading and assembly out of the box and can loosen or misalign with repeated use. These arrive with straps already mounted and the adjustment mechanism is accessible and holds its position through a full aeration session without needing re-tightening. The straps adjust to fit over most shoe sizes and the toe and heel straps provide stable triangulation that prevents the plates from rotating underfoot during use. The tines themselves are the critical performance component and these are appropriately long and constructed from metal that penetrates compacted turf without bending. My lawn is not the best-looking lawn in my neighborhood with lots of weeds and bald spots. The soil is poor and thatches over the years have thickened. I have spread some top soil and grass seeds, but the new grass really didn’t grow well to fill up the bald spots. I really don’t want to spend lots of money on the lawn using a professional help to make grass greener. This is why I wanted to try this lawn aerator shoes. I can achieve the aeration at the same time while I am raking the lawn in the spring time. I am expecting a better result with bald spots this time around with soil aeration. This Briliantwerk lawn aerator shoes look sturdy and are made with reasonably-thick (stiff but with somewhat flexible) nylon soles and good heel support. The anti-slip nut design firmly fixes 13pcs 2” spikes on the holloed-out sole. The base of the lawn shoes sole is made with non-slip texture. It’s an open-toe design that can accommodate different shoe sizes with a PU leather auto buckle to ensure a snug fit, slip resistance and stability allowing you to put on and take off quickly. It is recommended to water the lawn before using this aerator shoes for lawn aerating—The spikes won’t penetrate well when the soil is hard. For the assembly, all the straps are preinstalled and just 26 nails are need to be assembled on the sole. It’s very intuitive to assemble nails, therefore I didn’t need to read instructions. It took 15 minutes more or less to assemble all 26 spikes and nuts with a 10mm open-end wrench from a local hardware store. You need a good open wrench for easier tightening all 26 nuts. By the way, the product description says an installation tool is included, but I didn’t see one at all. I searched the package inside and out, but none. Anyway, it’s not a deal breaker because the included tool might not be a good one anyway. I won’t be able to use this lawn aerator shoes until the Spring comes (I still have 2 feet of snow on my lawn), which is still a month or two away. With the hook-and-loop adjustable straps, the shoes are easy to put on and take off, adjust for the shoe size, and they stay securely in place. I have put them on inside the house to feel how it feels on shoes, and it feels stable and could walk on the lawn without losing my balance. I will certainly add more comments after I actually walked on the lawn for some duration. By the way, don’t work on your hardwood floor or rugs with spiked shoes on, they will leave pock marks and holes. Overall, this Briliantwerk lawn aerator shoes seem promising for a low-cost aeration. On the golf course, they use a professional aerator which digs out thick plugs out of ground; therefore, the effectiveness of these small nails would be a good question.

These aerator shoes turned out to be a simple but really useful tool for lawn care. I started wearing them while mowing the grass, and it’s a great way to aerate the lawn without having to do a separate job later. The spikes are strong and long enough to actually penetrate the soil instead of just scratching the surface. I didn’t feel like they were going to bend or break during normal use. Using them while mowing is honestly the most convenient part. You’re already walking the whole yard anyway, so you’re basically aerating the lawn at the same time instead of making another pass later. What I liked: Strong spikes that actually penetrate the soil Adjustable straps that stay secure Durable enough for regular yard work Saves time by aerating while mowing Good for lawns, gardens, and general yard care Overall: If you want an easy way to improve your lawn without buying a large aerator machine, these shoes are a practical solution. Wearing them while mowing makes the job effortless and helps keep the grass healthy over time.
