  • Pointed Wisdom
While limited in its scope, this is an absolutely outstanding primer to biblical thinking on how to launch children into the world from an incredibly balanced author who focuses on parent lead discipleship. I highly recommend using this book as a basis for thinking through your own efforts to help your children leave the home equipped and prepared for their first steps out of your home. The framework this work provides is wonderful starting point and will challenge you to think through your own goals and prioritization in parenting. Read this and Chap Bettis' other works to gain wisdom from his years of deep thinking on how to help pass the baton of faith on to the next generation. Bravo, Chap! ... show more

  • Succinct!
This is a great book for parents who have high school seniors who are graduating. Great tips even for parents who have adult children living in the home - and although it will definitely be convicting, there is a lot of hope given. The chapters are short and to the point. I love that there isn’t wasted space. I’m going to stop thinking of raising kids like shooting an arrow from a quiver and now start seeing it as launching a jet from an aircraft carrier. The final chapter in the book is one of the best - so much good info that I need to revisit - got it bookmarked. I am hoping to pass copies of this book out to the parents during graduation celebration events at church. This is super helpful! ... show more

  • Parenting teens? This is a MUST READ!
This short book could not have come at a better time. I wish I had read it several years ago as we are already launching two of our children. But I am grateful for the guidance and help as we continue to shape and help our teens still at home. I wish we had known to talk to our kids about these goals we have for them before they went off to college. Too often we have had expectations that we did not clearly communicate to our kids. This book is a quick read and so practical! I appreciated Bettis's bold and straight-forward style. He doesn't beat around the bush. This is a much needed resource for parents today! ... show more

  • A quick read on an important life-change
Bettis, author of The Disciple-Making Parent, does a good overview of the time of transition as young adults move into their next life stage. He has great advice and practical wisdom for parents as they guide their child through this stage. It is a short book that can be read in one sitting. I wish he had elaborated more and developed his thoughts a little further like in the Disciple-Making Parent, but I think it is a great resource for parents. ... show more

  • Concise, intensely practical wisdom for parents of teens and young adults
This book may be brief, but it is dense with practical, biblical wisdom. Bettis provides the theological underpinnings for the concept of launching your teen or young adult into a life of godly independence, and then he helps the reader with some "rubber meets the road" scenarios that most parents will be sure to resonate with. This is a very readable book that you'll enjoy and benefit from if you're on the parenting journey or working with youth in any context. Bettis tells it like it is but does so with a warm, encouraging tone, and his practical experience is brought to bear in this helpful new resource. ... show more

  • Excellent help on a very needed topic
Chap did it again! In this short book, Chap provides a very sound, practical help for parents as they prepare their children out of high school years, into adulthood, all founded on the Biblical wisdom. Chap start with a theology of age with three stages for preparing the teenage children: teenage years, adult-in-training, and adulthood. "Starting around age twelve and ending in the early twenties, there is an intentional preparation phase." Chap then captures the objectives of the launch as aiming that his child will be skilled in the Word, with work, and with a spouse. He then examines some practical situations of one going to a residential college, staying at home & working, and staying at home when the child should not be. These topics have been constantly asked by many young parents with teenagers and college students in my work at our church in the NY area. This book will serve as an excellent guide and reference for many parents. ... show more

  • Every parent should read this!
Bettis was concise and, truthfully, I wished it was longer. Nevertheless this work is filled with practical, sound and biblically based wisdom. I'm going to begin providing and recommending it to parents of children beginning at birth in our church. It really is that good!
