But it became a staple at our house for carrying groceries, beach stuff, camping gear, etc. We still use it today and it could go another 20 years easily. I purchased this bag for a gift and I was pleased to see the construction is just as good as my old one. This bag is going to last. I needed a heavy duty tote to hold my work files, yet still wanted something that looked good. My heavy files broke the strap on my prior bag. This bag is very functional and durable. Straps are comfortable and can fit over my shoulder. This bag should last a long time. Surprising that the price on Amazon is even better than the sales price on the Lands End webpage.

Tired of those tote bags with slippery handles that won't stay on your shoulder or tote bags that break when you actually just use them.....this may be your answer. The handles DO NOT SLIP....this bag is made to hold 500 lbs. If it held 500 lbs....honestly I wouldn't be able to pick it up. LOL... Been looking for a QUALITY tote bag for quite some time. I bought the XL and it did not disappoint. It will be very roomy for me to pack about anything in it. A FANTASTIC ALL-PURPOSE tote bag. I mainly use this for when I go shopping or go out and need to put my purse, coat or jacket and anything extra's I buy while out in. This XL bag would work for a weekend bag for travel bag. I put off buying Lands' End because of the price but watch for a sale and get a terrific bag.

This Land's End tote is well-made, sturdy, and stylish (judging by the number I spot on the streets of Manhattan). However, to fit my personal preferences, I made two modifications to this medium sized tote. For me, the inside pocket was too long (and I needed an extra pocket), so I had a seam sewed to divide the large pocket into two. Since, I wanted the tote to be a "cross-body" style, I had hooks sewed on the ends, and fastened a shoulder-bag strap to the tote. A little more cost was added to the excellent Amazon price, but now the bag has six inside pockets, and the tote can be carried as a cross-body. My suggestion to Land's End would be to make the front outside pocket deeper, and/or add another pocket on the reverse side to carry cards, keys, etc. so one does not have to keep unzipping the bag.
