This is my third Lamy safari, first was extra fine, then broad, now fine, all worked well, but this fine had some issues with flow, I some times have outrun ink flow so I’ve had to slow down, other then that had zero problems. P.S. It should be stated that I write very quickly…for me there is no need to upgrade, Safari suits my needs perfectly, I think I’ll only buy these. ... show more

These are great pens and a great value, but I do not care for the triangular grip section. I gifted this pen to a relative who loves it. My advice is to try one before you buy or be prepared to be disappointed.

I really like Lamy fountain pens. The Al-Star is no exception. I have several Lamys, and I can't decide which I like best. They all write well. Make sure to first clean them thoroughly, especially any converters using a bulb syringe and a regular syringe and blunt needle for the converter respectively using dish soap and water (they can have oily manufacturing residue) for best performance. The Al-Star is comfortable to hold, well balanced, and modern looking. Lamy's interchangeable nibs are in a class of their own as far as looks and performance go, despite their relative wide nib-size variability compared to the three big Japanese brands. ... show more
