  • Mixed review after two months of use
I have three boys and three girls, ages 1-11, split into two rooms. I purchased three of these and made two large units to accommodate clothes and toys in an effort to reduce clutter and get rid of beat up dressers and toy boxes. I purchased enough storage cubes to fill each cubby, various sizes. The 13x13 storage cubes are too snug for the smaller kids to pull out easily due to the design. The black plastic pieces that hold the shelves together at each joint create a lip that causes the cubes to have to be lifted up and out. The smaller cubes 11x11 don’t look as nice but are easier to manage. It was tedious putting it together. The reviews here were helpful in stressing to listen for the click or snap. It’s definitely important to make sure what you have together already is tight and thorough before building more on it. My boyfriend put one together, and I put the other together. He was not very thorough in assembly, and I have had several incidents with that unit of panels coming loose or the black plastic joint pieces coming off. I would not recommend this product for child use. Kids are just too hard on furniture, and I have enough to do in a day without the worry of reassembling furniture. The materials of the unit are durable, but the design is not. It is difficult to move without compromising the integrity of the joints. We have had fewer issues with the one I assembled because I took my time and made sure each juncture was snapped together completely before continuing. I didn’t use the wooden mallet included in the box but rather used my body weight as leverage. The girls love how much space this has freed up in their room, and I love how their room is now virtually free of clutter. We got rid of two dressers and a toy box in their room with what would equate to 1 1/2 units. All of the kids loved that they could make their spaces more personalized. I bought various designs of storage cubes - prints, solids, and a bunch of different canvas/felt nursery animal cubes made by 3sprouts and Hurricane (both sold here on Amazon). I love how versatile these are in designing the look and accommodating the space where it will be. If there is an electrical outlet or light switch behind where the unit will be, you can just leave that back panel off and still have access or build it shorter on one side than the other. If you want to leave a space in the middle for a hamper, small dresser, desk, or trash can, you can build two tall columns with a couple of bridge cubes connecting at the top. The possibilities are really only limited to where your imagination ends. I like that this unit doesn’t have the limitations in design like a traditional shelf or storage unit has - tall or wide. The doors are optional. The transparent material is folded over the metal framework of the door and then stamped or sewn closed with some kind of machine. This creates a sort of zig zag seam. A few of the doors have uneven seams which cause the material to stick out farther than it should on top or bottom which causes that door to get snagged on the door on top or bottom of it, and you end up opening two at once or not being able to shut it completely flush. If your doors are doing this, it’s either a design flaw or you have a joint that isn’t completely snapped together that is causing it to not line up correctly. If I had rated this after I first got it, I would have given it 4/5 stars, but it has lost some value over two months of use because of the frustration of having to snap pieces back together. All it takes is one unstable joint. In an effort to get that one back together, you end up causing a chain reaction of other loose joints, and it becomes frustrating, especially if the unit is too tall or wide for you to get enough leverage on both sides of the joint to properly snap it back together. In retrospect, I wish I had saved my money toward a couple of sturdier, traditional pieces. These simply aren’t practical for frequent use in a house full of kids. I would recommend this for an adult who never has the urge to climb their furniture in order to obtain their optimal super hero vantage point and who never would consider the 14x14 cube space as a viable option for a hide-and-seek victory... so pretty much recommended for adult women :) ... show more

  • Excellent price for a great product.
I've had this storage unit for over 3 years now. I am only now considering replacing it because once it's built and filled if it falls apart it is a pain to reassemble. Now that being said, I have two young cats that love to jump on this and spring off it full force which is why I think it keeps falling apart! Before I got my kittens the cubes never came apart and even with the cats its only fully come apart a few time in the past two years of having them. It is becoming more frequent likely due to damage from the cats. So I still highly recommend this product but it cannot withstand full frontal assaults from ninja cats for an extended period of time. ... show more

  • Good for the price
I've had this as primary storage for my clothes for just over a year. For the price, it's good, but you can't put too much in there or you risk the storage collapsing, which is what happened to a few cubes of mine. I've recently had to take it apart, and you need to muscle the pieces into the joints. I used zip ties to hold the joints together, which isn't that big of a deal, but ideally I shouldn't need to do that. If you're storing light things, it should be perfectly fine. If you're using it as clothing storage, I'd probably skip it or if you do buy it, expect to buy some zip ties too. Not terrible, just a bit frustrating. ... show more

  • Really a settle
Not deep, only 14 by 14. Check and make sure that's what you want before you buy this one. Some others are a tad deeper. Dump that baby toy hammer and use you tap hammer. Really "tap" in the ones in the back. they are far more important than the ones in the front and become the gotcha later on. Doors are very meh. Would it have killed them to have some magnetic corners? There are no spares depending on how it's built. Tap them once, and then never remove them. The corners get pretty weak. The pieces do "snap" but they might not be deep enough, straight enough or fully connected at all the angles. Build it outside or on something sturdy. Not carpet and nothing you might get pissed if you dropped your hammer and chipped the tile. build it in the garage and then carry it inside when done. Other than that. It works OK for holding sweaters, pants, occasional use clothes. The doors keep most of the dust out, and it's really light to move. I put it on just a little, thin plastic board I had in the garage just to keep it off the floor in case I got some water or something from mopping. ... show more

  • Usable IF you ADD Tie Wraps
I purchased this to store yarn in my craft room - unfortunately - the IDEA is good, but the black corner clips do not stay on (and yes - I watched the video and even heard each clip "click" when assembling) - the slightest movement (I breathed on it) will cause a clip to pop-off and by the time you get to the 3rd or 4th level of cubes - it really becomes unstable and literally begins to self destruct. I ALMOST boxed it up and shipped it back, but after ranting at it for 10 mins, I decided to try one more thing before throwing in the towel. It was obvious that those clips were never going to stay in place by themselves, so I ended up using tie wraps everywhere there was a black clip and literally tie wrapped each cube together in multiple places. I probably over did it with the tie wraps, but it is now sturdy and will not fall apart, nor will the wire floors of each cube pop out. It was a lot easier to square it up so that the doors actually worked properly. It ended up being the perfect storage for all my yarn and it made it easy to see exactly what I had in my stash - plus it keeps the dust off. Bottom line - you get what you pay for and I really did not want to spend a fortune on something to store yarn, so with a little extra time; patience and effort to assemble with tie wraps- this storage solution is adequate. I gave it a 3 because of the fact I had to add tie wraps to keep it together. If I did not come up with this solution - it would have been rated less than 1 star and returned as unusable!! ... show more
