  • Wasn’t impressed
Style: MICROKORG2
I remember buying the original MicroKorg in early 2000s . The excitement of a synth and all the songs I used its sounds on… The MicroKorg 2 did NOT give that feeling . Idk if modern VSTs and a newer sonic landscape changed me, but the MicroKorg 2 sounded… cheap and lacking. For a $600 synth I was expecting more. ... show more

  • I Love My MicroKorg2. Love, Love, Love
Style: MICROKORG2
This synth has so much personality, it is fantastic. Aka a sick nasty crunchadellic arpeggiating decayer. Nice sound using my Beyerdynamic headphones. Easy to understand and see menus. Perfect size to travel with and use in the recording studio. Plus it also takes batteries. If you are trying to decide if you should get this new MicroKorg 2 or maybe just get the original, just stop and buy the MicroKorg2. Don’t pull your hair out. If you are between the MicroKorg2 and the KingKorg Neo, and you have not owned a synth before. Stop. Just buy the MicroKorg2. (If you are a Korg menu diver expert, and full on audio snob, you may proceed with the Neo, and your audio snobbery). If you have listened to the MiniFreak and are still debating if the MicroKorg2 sounds as good, I am terribly sorry for you. The MiniFreak sounds hollow and cheap in comparison. Now you are aware, and it is alright, we all make mistakes sometimes. Now buy the MicroKorg2 and enjoy using a real instrument. Now you are pro. Hook this bad boy (or girl, or other) up for stereo recording and get funky. Or robot like. Whatever you do, don’t think the genre dial is anything more than a set of folders, with presets that you can change. Or that the achievement menu is anything but a tutorial. I purchased the MicroKorg2 Limited Edition Black version. And unless you are completely sold on either all Black, or all White (why, it will be dirty soon), then there is no reason to get the Limited Edition version. You do not get anything much more useful than the overall color of the synth. The power adapter for the MicroKorg2 is the KA-350. Same exact power adapter in the US and Japan. Not sure why that information was nowhere on the internet until now. This Amazon listing is for the Grey Standard version, and the Limited Edition White (clean room, sanitarium version). I do not see the Limited Edition Black for sale right now. On the Limited Edition version, there are few minor differences. Two buttons are aluminum, and you get a dust cover. To me the Black color alone was worth the extra cost. But this is not the case for most people. Save your money to use on plugins or a better DAW, get the grey one. Then bask in its Korglory2-ness. ... show more

  • This thing rocks
Style: MICROKORG2
IMHO this is a great synth. The genre tone selector and the bright screen make it easy to work with hardly and menu diving or hidden “shift” functions that you have to reference the user manual for. The presets are common tones one would use to make music. The looper is great for sketching quick ideas. It has a decent selection of delay, reverb and modulation. It’s my go to for sketching song ideas. If you’re more into complex patch routing and on board sequencing you might want a Minifreak or a hydrasynth explorer instead. But this is great for someone that primarily wants to jam and make music. Haven’t quite figured out the vocoder yet. ... show more
