My use of this slider is a special one. I have an over-produced podcast. I’ve long wanted to add a slider to add one more dimension of quality to my show. The desire to have one was inspired by Real Time with Bill Maher, segments on Fox News, and Redbar. The product works as I want it to. I wish that the instructions were a little more clear on how to set new A/B points. The app could be a little more intuitive. Unfortunately, there are few tutorials about how to do this, so I had to tinker patiently for a while. The noise when the camera is sliding is minimal and won’t be a problem in the audio of my recordings. This so far seems like a quality budgeted choice. If it ever breaks down, I’ll probably buy a more expensive model. In case it’s not clear from the Amazon product page, I am powering it with a USB C connection. There is an option for battery power as well, but I wanted a permanent power source. I had to build a corner shelf to accommodate the slider(see picture). In order to build the shelf, I used geometry and the Pythagorean theorem to get the dimensions right. :) One note, I could have achieved my goal with a much smaller slider, but having never done this, I didn’t know that I was going to be using it with such a short span between the A and B points. My environment/room is 12 x 12 feet. Using the span of the whole slider would bring many things into view that I didn’t want in the shot. It’s a worthwhile learning experience. This is a very stable setup. The motor is very quiet. I like that you can use the sony batteries to power it. It has plenty of options to connect things to it or to attach it to light stands or a tripod. It works wonderfully. The price on it is very nice for what you get!
