I was definitely impressed when I opened the set. Such a great packaging, design, shape and I love the color combos. They are very comfortable holding in hands and quite sharp. Each knife has a little cute blade protector as well. Very satisfied with the shopping.

This set of knives is disappointing on so many levels. I don't like to leave bad reviews unless I can back it up with evidence, so here goes (along with photos): 1. Only one inch of the blade extends into the plastic handle (in cutlery terms, this is known as the 'tang'). That's all that holds these blades in place, and a few of the knives had rough plastic near that groove that you could feel when using the knife. Compare that to the quality steak knife shown in the photo with a full metal tang that runs down the entire length of the wooden handle. This short blade may explain why the knives click somewhat when you move them around. I find that annoying and loose parts don't usually last in my experience. 2. The two pins that fasten the blade to the handle are of varying width and placement. Some don't appear to completely fill the hole they are in. Put any two knives side by side and they are different. Even on one knife the two pins can appear different. This hints at poor workmanship. 3. The handle feels too skinny compared to a typical knife, but I realize this is a personal preference. The nature of the French "Laguiole" style handle is that of a small, curved pocket knife. It does handle well when cutting a steak, but it's very light in the hand and just not as substantial as I expect from a steak knife. If the handles were heavier it might make a difference. 4. The logo on the top of the handle is poorly stamped and some are crooked. Also, I had no idea what it was at first. Is it a samurai in a robe? An angel? Then I looked at the outside of the box and realized - it's supposed to resemble a bee (to go with the honeycomb pattern on the plastic handle). Umm, ok. It just looks cheap. 5. These are good at cutting steak, but that's it. I had them out on the countertop and tried to cut a few other things - an apple, a block of cheese, vegetables, etc. Doing so produces an unpredictable curving slice that can't be controlled. It actually sliced AWAY from what I was cutting. This is common to some degree on knives that are only serrated on ONE side of the blade. But in this case, the angle of the serrated edge is so extreme (maybe 30 degrees, seen in the photo) that it serves as a wedge to push the food away as you cut into it. These are steak knives, I get it. But if I can't use them for anything else in the kitchen, and only pull them out when I'm serving a good steak for myself or guests, they better be of high enough quality that it's worth the effort to get the set out. Unfortunately, this is not that set.

This is a set of 4 steak knives. These are not Laguiole knives to be sure. I don't know why they are called Laguiole style. These knives are not of the Laguiole quality in any way. These knives will work on meat, but I don't know for how long. They are really only fair in comfort and construction. I can't recommend them.
