The product description for this necklace claims that the beads on this item are gemstones / natural stones, and that the letter is "14K gold plated, hypoallergenic" and "lead-free and nickel-free." Now, I can't say for sure if those claims are entirely accurate -- and I'm assuming the stones, even if natural, were dyed, because the colors are so vibrant and uniform -- but I can say all of the elements of this necklace feel like they're mad eout of relatively good-quality materials... The beads feel like stones and not plastic (e.g., they have a weight to them and a nice coldness to the touch) and the letter likewise feels like a decent piece of metal and isn't easily bendable, etc. Overall the necklace looks quite nice, and although I think the current price might be a bit on the high-end for what it is, it is certainly a great step up over cheaper, plasticky versions of this style of necklace that I've seen before -- or, as my elementary-school daughter, who I gave this to, said, "This is soooooo cute, I love it!" It also arrives in a decent little box that makes this easily giftable. ... show more
