I am still getting used to this reader. So far, I find it the easiest reader on my eyes. The paper white is the closest thing to reading a real paper book. I also really like the writing capability. It writes easily - better than pen on paper. I do wish that there were more note taking options in the reader - more highlighter choices as there are on the writer side where I can choose the pen style. Despite the reader being the paper white version, I’d also like the option to highlight in color. So far I’m very happy - it’s the near perfect tool, and my comments about the pen style in the reader are minor. I am glad to not have a bunch of apps here to distract me from reading and writing. This is a big improvement over my last Fire. However, I would really like to be able to get my email on the device and I find the browser incredibly slow. Perhaps in this case less is more. I've only had the device for about 24 hrs at this point. It is a nice looking, sleek, light weight device. The reaction time for the pen is really good. It has capabilities to email your work but as far I can tell you can't sync it with any cloud storage. If it was any other paper tablet that didn't give you the ability to sync with OneDrive I would have given it 3 stars instead but you do get the Kindle eReader along with it which pushes it up to 4 stars overall. I do have a suggestion for Amazon regarding the eReader, please add the ability to create collections within collections. There are a lot of authors I follow that have stand alone books but also have several series. It would be nice to be able to sort the books by author and then series. ... show more

Scribe: We bought two bundles at the same time on different accounts. The scribes arrived separately from other items. Spouse’s scribe had wrapping in box so kindle scribe would not flop around in the box. Mine had nothing in the much larger box. So it could received many hits during the shipping process and box was bent on corners and edges. That being said, it worked. But I worry about for how long. Updates on scribe made a weak operating system much better. Needs more work. Pencil works OK but am always hitting button. Compared to the free one note app one can get on multiple tablets and phones the scribe is boring. Especially if you are taking notes you do not intend to print. No individual pages though. So if you wanted to print from the free app on one note, everything written shows up on one page. One note does not offer page framing so you do not know where one page ends and another begins. But the colors are amazing. But the Scribe gives you pages that do not go on forever. You can actually see the page boundaries. Also, the templates are pretty decent. New pages open up with just a flip of the finger. Needs feature so you can make your own template. Needs feature where you can create shapes. Very limited in functionality, BUT it is useful still. I do use it frequently. Size is great. Very slippery though. Which brings me to the leather magnetic case that came with bundle. Leather Magnetic Case: (3 stars) The bad: Would not have bought it if had felt it. But it does have redeeming qualities. The sides of the case dig into my fingers. Edges not comfortable. To make it slim they made sharp edges instead of rounding. Magnets holding it onto back only so so. Just good enough to hold it on and stand it up. But not great. The good: Color and texture good. Color looks slightly different than image but close enough. More purple than burgundy. Lightweight. It stands on its own nicely. Angle is good. Pencil holder is nice and tight but not too tight. It feels good to read and write because it is high quality, but the functionalities could improve a lot! Here are 3 basic essentials that they can add to Kindle Scribe in my opinion. 1. It is very slow but could be faster and easier to work with. Many simple intuitive tasks cannot be done. 2. It should have had colors, especially when you want to read charts or when taking notes it is better to have at least 3 or 4 colors for better diagrams and notes. 3. It should be able to connect to a PC/other devices to live stream a certain note, for presentation or teaching purposes. ... show more

For me the scribe offered a opportunity for a technical library that held my notes and personal indexing just like I have on desk. So far I have not been able to because I have to read a manual instead of navigateing a tool bar. But by paring it with the Kindle fire I can get most of what I had hope. ... show more

I was looking for a tablet that I could take notes and draw. I looked at others that had the ability to convert handwriting to text. I wanted to get a new Kindle but held back until the handwriting to text came out and I decided to try it. I was very surprised that it was better than I hoped for, very easy to write, move test and edit. I constantly have people wanting to try it and say they are going to buy one. I should get a commission! I think it's great. Best thing I purchased in a long time I highly recommend it, expecially if you are a Kindle user.
