These are heavy duty skates so it really helped my 5yr old to learn to skate. They are not soft or flimsy. It's a very firm material for ankle support and feet support. So happy with these. They are bulky but perfect for him.

The media could not be loaded. I ordered size Large in pink. My (nearly) 11 year old daughter wears size 3-4 and can wear them on the smallest setting. I wear women’s size 5.5-6 and can wear these on the 2nd setting, so there is plenty of room for growth. (I got them for my daughter, but I tested them out.) They have lots of padding all over the inside and a soft removable insole. She has been wearing them around the house for the past several days, skating instead of walking around (we have tile floor). She loves them and hasn’t complained of any pain. (When I tried them out I felt like the plastic frame was pressing against my inner ankle too firmly. But I’m an adult, and these are kids skates, so that may be irrelevant.) Adjusting the size is simple in theory, but it takes some strength (and a large hand) so my daughter can’t do it herself. I need to support the skate by using one arm to squeeze it against my body and press the button, while using the other hand to get a good grip on the boot to push or pull it. (See my video.) There is a plastic buckle at the top that goes over the laces (as most roller blades and skates do). I don’t have any difficulty with it, but my daughter sometimes slides it into the lock in an imperfect direction, which makes it stick out rather than hiding under the plastic frame. But I don’t see any problems with the skates themselves. They’re just great.
