I am happy with the quality,size,and look of the bookshelf but putting it together is not that great. I have taken it apart many times cuz was off just a smidge or wouldnt go in cuz something was off. One of the backboards is lil warped or not cut right because it wont fit and i have tried several times to get it to fit. Thought had it til tried putting top on but it is just a smidge too high so top wont fit. So took apart bottom part again to fix the board but still having issues....it’s not put together at the moment cuz i had to walk away. Im to point im gonna leave the bottom back board off or just put on after all together and not have in the groove slots. I will get figured out somehow but excited to get it done and put in daycare room to help organize toys ... show more

We love this unit. It's very nice looking, doesn't look cheap. It is holding up well in my toddler play room. The only complaint I have is the bins that come with it are cheap looking. I actually threw them in the recycling bin and used others because it brought the look of the whole piece down. They are fine to use, nothing wrong with them, I just preferred something a bit nicer looking. They don't look like they go with the rest of the shelves. ... show more

The product is nice, but the assembly can be a pain. Really pay attention to fine details with the picture instructions. The backing part did not fit well and made it difficult to put the rest of it together. 2 of the screws were not even long enough to go through where they were supposed to. After finally getting it assembled it does look nice and hold a lot, so worth it after struggling through the assembly a bit ... show more

While I was waiting for this to be delivered, I happened to browse through the reviews and they freaked me out a little bit! This is not difficult to put together, and the instructions, though wordless, are very clear. In fact, two of the pieces were mislabeled in my set, and it was so obvious which was which that it didn't take more than two minutes to figure it out. It took me about 2 hours to put the unit together, alone. I've had a couple of other KidCraft pieces, and this was on the simpler spectrum of their items. It looks GREAT in my child's room, and replaced two cabinets that took up much more room. Also, it allowed me to put things I'd had up high down on his level so he can get his own toys instead of having to ask us to get them down for them. This was packaged securely, and none of the pieces were damaged. Yes, they're dusty and that packing foam is messy, but anything you buy that you have to put together will have that issue. This piece was at least $200 cheaper than anything else of its quality I saw, and nothing else that would have weighed this much (89 pounds!) would have had free shipping. The only thing I can see that might be a problem is that the plastic bins have little right-angle "feet" on each corner, and those get caught on th edge of the shelf when I push them in. I'll update in a few months with whether or not it's damaged the finish. ... show more

It took some time to assemble, but not bad. I also had to go back a few steps because I noticed I put a couple of the pieces on backwards! It took more time to put together but after all was done the shelf was nice and sturdy. There is also a ton of compartments for storage. Which I love! My kids love their shelf and how everything is in one place and I love the organization and how everything is in one spot instead of all over. ... show more

The only problem I had with assembly was im used to some directions making it clear which direction the varnished side should be so just pay attention to the marks. I noticed some people complained that you can see the scene heads but they are colored to blend in with the wood and they don't look bad to me. The hardest step is near the end because you build the entire top and the bottom separate and then you have to lift it and place it. I did it myself and managed to line it up perfect after the third try but it would have been much easier with a second person so if you can do that that is easiest. If you feel like you have to force screw something it is not placed correctly everything should screw fairly easily. By far the best toy box my son has ever had this actually cleared space where I was also storing toys. I love it it's perfect!!!! ... show more
