Description

The Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector, Battery Powered CO Alarm with LEDs, Test- Reset Button, Low Battery Indicator, Portable, model 9CO5LP2, is a carbon monoxide detector that uses electrochemical sensor technology to detect carbon monoxide. The CO detector is powered by 2-AA alkaline batteries located in the back of the unit, providing easy installation & no wiring, plus coverage during a power failure. The alarm is conveniently designed and portable enough for travel - simply install it on a wall or place it on a tabletop. When carbon monoxide is detected, an 85-decibel alarm will sound & a red LED will flash. A green LED indicates that the alarm is receiving power. The test-hush button allows you to test the battery operations as well as temporarily silence the low battery chirp warning. Plus, peak level memory records the last time carbon monoxide was detected or when the unit was last tested. I did not realize that an old furnace, even though functional, is a potential MAJOR carbon monoxide producer. Once made aware of this fact, and in an effort not to "wake up dead", I purchased these. I purposely got the battery powered ones after seeing reviews where wall outlet styles from other makers had gotten hot/smoked/caught fire. The folks who sell this unit were good enough to include the mounting hardware. It sounds like a small thing, and it is... until you finally get the time to do this chore, and the energy, and get ready to mount... and have to make a trip for hardware. The actual installation and operation was simple, well thought out, and I threw them up in 5 rooms inside of maybe half an hour. Amazon is getting better about carrying more hardware items like this, and their system is convenient, fast, and saved me a trip to the hardware store (which is becoming a nightmare nowadays). Having said all that, I was very pleased with these things and feel like the house is significantly safer. ... show more

If you do not have carbon monoxide detectors in your home, INSTALL THEM NOW. We have a large, newer home with two furnaces on two levels, and found out one was malfunctioning and starting to emit higher carbon monoxide levels (still within the "acceptable" range, but higher than desired) when we called our repairman.
