These do the job well. If you're very budget minded, you can simply use vinegar. There are many youtube videos describing how to do this (I use the videos by the Just A Dad Videos account). Unlike vinegar, though, this solution does not smell bad. This solution is very easy to use, and the final rinse pass is enough to fully clean out my unit. I end up running an extra set of rinses when using vinegar to completely remove the smell and taste. I expect I will use this product over vinegar just to avoid the smell, taste, and extra work. It's a decent value for the money. A gallon of vinegar in my area is about $4, which comes out to about $1 per cleaning. This product cost me about $7 for a cleaning. The "name brand" solution costs $14-$20 per cleaning, but when you buy the bundle, you also get new filters. I tend to replace my filters more often, so I buy those separately.

I used this product on my Philip machine and the coffee did taste better afterwards! Very easy to use and the instructions are very clear. I purchased the 32oz bottle. It would be better if there are indicating lines on the bottle to specify volume for each use. The product is flawless. Highly recommend!

Be careful not to use too much as it is very potent! If you have not cleaned your machine in awhile and have been neglecting it, start off with slightly less than bottle recommended because otherwise when it unclogs everything it will be so much gunk it will be trapped later down the lines to where it blocks the lines & breaks it machine & you need to manually tear it apart or send it to Nespresso to repair, because once again if you use a slightly less amount than recommended and start to use more often it will prevent this problem of the lines getting clogged all in the first wash… very potent product!

I used this solution on my original-line Nespresso machine following the instructions on the bottle, and I did multiple rounds of full-tank flushes afterward. The result seems okay - I did not notice an aftertaste. However, after some research, I realized this solution is based on citric acid, whereas the recommended descaler by Nespresso is based on lactic acid. Arguably, the citric acid may be more corrosive for the aluminum thermal block in the Nespresso machine than the lactic acid. So I may switch back to a lactic acid-based descaler in the future.
