  • Kinda sad about it
I put these in my car and they really didn’t fit like stated as they would. They also sound kinda crappy if I’m being honest. I’m getting a new head unit soon to see if that’s the problem, if they still sound crappy after that I’m gonna have to say these speakers are junk. Until next time…when I install my new unit ... show more

  • 2012 Prius Entune Radio is now In Tune
Pros: Excellent price Excellent sound quality (for the price) Very efficient Good fit Cons: Fronts (6x9) play much louder than rears (6.5") Comments: I put these in my 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In which has the stock (non-JBL) Entune radio. For the Installation I also ordered the Metra front and rear speaker adapters ( Metra 82-8146 6" x 9" Front Speaker Adapter for Select Lexus and Toyota Vehicles Metra 82-8148 6" to 6-3/4" Speaker Adapter for Select Toyota/Lexus/Scion 1998-Up Vehicles ) plus two pair of speaker wire adapters ( (2) Pair of Metra 72-8104 Speaker Wire Adapters for Select Toyota Vehicles - 4 Total Adapters ). I have a lot of experience installing car audio so drilling out the stock speakers, mounting the speakers on the adapters, attaching the connectors and installing the new set took about 90 minutes for all four doors. An inexperienced person could easily do this installation within three hours with the proper tools (drill, pry tools, phillips screwdriver, flat head screwdriver, rivet gun & rivets, pliers). This isn't my first set of Kenwood car speakers so I expected that they would sound just fine and they did not disappoint. In comparison to my 2011 Prius IV with the JBL audio option, these speakers with the stock 2012 Entune radio (no amp) play louder and with considerably better sound quality. As the speakers are new (just put them in today), there is some tightness in the sound but with break-in they should get better. Listening to a variety of music (Classical, Rock, Metal, R&B, Jazz, Trance), they performed well beyond their price range. Balancing out the sound required one click up to the midrange EQ and two up to the treble and these settings worked well for most types of music. Despite the fact that the front speakers do play much louder than the rears (strange because they have the same efficiency rating), the front to rear sound is very well balanced so there was no need to adjust the front-rear balance control. Before I installed these speakers I thought it might be necessary to buy an amplifier at some future point but these speakers are considerably louder than the (really pathetic) stock speakers. Since the Prius is so quiet (inside) to begin with, adding an amplifier to these speakers would be pointless as the stock head unit can easily provide ample power with no audible clipping up to near maximum volume (55). I did not do any instrumented testing but listening to some familiar pipe organ music showed that these speakers go down to around 45Hz comfortably filling the cabin with very smooth bass but they do roll off rapidly below that point. Despite some etching of voices (this may change with break-in), the midrange was tight and accurate without being overbearing. Treble is never screechy (like the stock speakers) or shrill. Given the price and overall sound quality of these speakers, I would highly recommend them to Gen 3 Prius owners as a much needed upgrade to the cheap screechy stock speakers. You'll be surprised at how good the stock Entune radio really is. Thanks for reading! ... show more

  • Great value for the set here.
Perfect fit for a 1997 Honda Accord LX. Fit in the rear deck (6x9) with no modification other than to replace the Honda wiring connection. The 6.5's fit perfect in the door. They fit directly into the spacer ring/basket from the OEM Honda speakers. Again, you have to replace the wiring connection. Depth is nearly identical to OEM speakers. Sound - the 6x9's make reasonable bass if you don't push them too hard. I have an aftermarket JVC deck (new - 50x4 max) that pushes them to their max it would appear at about 21 or 22 of the 30 on volume. The 6x9's are fairly bright compared to the stock, which brings some needed clarity to spoken voices (sports radio etc.). The 6.5's are significant improvements over OEM's as well, but sadly in this application they are significantly quieter than the 6x9's. The 6.5's are actually the weak point in this pairing, as they are readily overpowered by even the littlest push of bass. If you can cross them over and keep them above 100hz though they'll shine for you. If you can cross the 6x9's over separately at 80hz and have the bass out of your sub these are a really solid budget friendly solution to adding nice sound to your vehicle. I would've liked to have gotten a beefier 6.5 set but mounting depth in the doors is very limited unless you want to modify (on this Honda), and I'm not ready for that level of commitment on a car of this "quality" since it's 19 years old already with a somewhat sketchy transmission and terrible paint! ... show more
