I bought these as a substitute for the high-cost hiking shoes recommended to me after I had broken my ankle and badly sprained my MCL all within a few months. I have been wearing these shoes for long walks and moderately-long hikes, on a variety of terrain, and -- so far -- I am super-pleased with them! They are very comfortable once you break them in (a couple weeks for me), they remain quite water-proof when traversing woodland with occasional rills and other wet areas, and I have found them to offer better traction than I dared hope for the price. I have worn them hiking up and down ravines, through muddy woodland areas, on hard-packed road with widely-scattered loose rocks, and even on a small area of loose sand -- so far, they have performed beautifully in keeping my feet, ankles, and knees stable and making me feel secure when I walk. They really do seem very well made. and to deliver on what they promise. The only reason I haven't given them five stars is that I have only used them a few months and there are some terrains I haven't yet attempted. I actually hike alot but on a recent hike I slipped and landed so hard it knocked the wind out of me. Thus, leading to the purchase of these. I'm an 8 1/2 wide women's shoe and I originally ordered a 9 1/2 based on some other comments, but those were just clown shoes on me. So I returned them and got a 9 and those fit much better. I honestly probably could've gotten my typical size but I didn't mind the extra room in the toe box. However, the new pair weren't sewn right on my left boot. The way it was sewn had the rim of the boot rubbing my calf raw. Getting longer socks did help but I could still feel it. If I didn't already wear them before realizing, I would've returned them. All that being said, let's move on the the traction aspect. So these do seem to have good tread, but still not great for muddy hikes. I was still having to take it really slow and was still losing my balance while my husband and kids were perfectly fine in regular shoes. But these do give good support and my feet feel "safe" lol. And these are super easy to clean since everything washes right off! I'd probably purchase these again ... show more

Keen Voyageur hiking boots fit just like the Voyageur hiking shoes do, except the boots come up over the ankle. This gives wonderful ankle support when walking on uneven surfaces. I really like them. The shoes/boots feel comfortable right out of the box; no breaking-in period is necessary. There is plenty of room in the toe box so that I can wiggle my toes, but the heel is snug enough that it does not slip. The insoles are removable and I always replace them with Super Feet insoles, which of course may contribute to how very comfortable these shoes and boots are. The laces never come untied or work themselves loose. Keen Voyageurs are my all-time favorite shoes / boots for walking or hiking. ... show more

I grew up going barefoot a lot and my foot is pretty wide at the toes. The wide toe box in these boots is perfect for me. In addition, they are comfy from the first minute, need no break-in, really as easy to wear as my sneakers. This is my 4th pair of these. The only negative is that the soles start to delaminate before I've worn the tread down. That said, it's been 4 years since I bought my last pair, I wear them hiking and also most days in the garden. I am somebody who hikes 5+ miles every single day. I have hiked peak after peak in these boots, and they have performed flawlessly everytime. I have little bunionettes on both feet from tight running shoes several years ago, and these boots have stellar toe-box space for them. I have nothing to say about these boots but good. These are really comfortable. I don’t like that thy are a bit bulky/wide. But I’m not sure if they only look that way to me or if they actually look bulky on my feet to others as well. Good quality for the cost.
