I've been buying Keen's for 16 years now and have gone through dozens of pairs of their hiking shoes. Lately, I have toned down my hiking, but I still like the Keen shoes for daily wear. I am a loyal Keen enthusiast not only because they make a great shoe, but once, in 2012, I had a pair of Targhee II that had a faulty eyelet that broke the first time I wore it. Keen promptly replaced the boots with no questions asked. That action by them made me a Keen customer for life. These Targhee III's are replacing another pair of Targhee III's that will now be relegated to yardwork only. These hiking boots have a relaxed feel - they are light and nimble (not heavy or clunky). I feel comfortable doing anything in these boots and that is why they are what I wear 80% of the time. My wife wears a more, 'traditional', hiking boot and she only wears those on the trail because they do well on the trail, but aren't great anywhere else. These Keens are champs on the trail and perform well in most other situations as well. I love that they are waterproof and that the soles are grippy. I have never lost my footing because of my Keens. If you've never worn Keens before, the toe box is large and roomy. My feet are narrow near the heel and normal up front - these boots are snug on my heel and leave room for my toes. ... show more

This was my first pair of Targhee III mid waterproof boots. I previously wore Targhee II mid waterproof boots but when the III's came out I thought I would give them a try. I have a fairly wide forefoot (D+) but a very skinny heel (AAA). These boots provide plenty of space for wide feet in the toe box but at a the same time the lacing is such that I can snug them up to hold my skinny heels in place without slipping. The comfort is excellent right out of the box and it just gets better as they break in. Ankle support is also excellent with lots of cushioning. The lace loops are more durable than the II's because they are made of leather rather than nylon. I wore these boots almost daily for more than two years with no sign of wear. I also wore them on a long trip to Israel, Egypt and Jordan and they stood up to everything that was thrown at a them. After lots of long hard use one of the soles finally separated from the upper and I had to bid them a fond farewell. I replaced them with another pair of Targhee III's and am looking forward to more years of great service and comfort. ... show more

Boot Received in September 2025. I have worn this boot exactly 3 times. I noticed the bottom of boot material is beginning to crack (see pic). It almost appears to be dry-rotted on both sides of both boots. This is unacceptable for a company like Keen to have this kind of quality defect. I have not had issues with Keen boots in the past. I want this boot replaced by Amazon with a different lot. Do not purchase this product!. You are throwing your money away. I will update this post if the company rectifies the issue. ... show more

I bought late in the planning for a back country hiking trip. No time for breaking in. We did 75 miles without any issues. 0 blisters or rub areas. These may be the best hikers I have ever owned. I just ordered the same pair in low ankle style. Sizing was spot on. I like to have some wiggle room for my toes and they have an ample toe box. So far the show almost zero wear. Main problem is the left shoe, big toe area leather was not stitched into the rest of the upper. So there was enough room to slide a coin inside and that would also be a huge non waterproof area aside from being subject to tearing apart if I wore them. They felt comfortable and roomy trying them on. If they were stitched up properly I would have kept them. There was also the top eyelet for the laces that was scratched up like someone took a file to it. I'm not confident they were new but the soles looked unused, so it's probably only a defect or something weird happened at the factory with the left side. They were returned because of those issues. Why did you pick this product vs others?: I went with this item because of product familiarity. As I have owned items from them in the past. But I was seriously disappointed when in only a few days of use the top section of the shoe where your toes meet your foot on the part of the shoe l, wore out and cracked eventually bending this part for normal walking started to fray and disintegrate. This making the shoe prone to water getting into and soaking my feet. The rest of the shoe was made well enough but this corner top side of the shoe in only a week of use made this pair of shoes unusable and I had to recycle them. I didn’t bother to complain although I should have so this company can correct this issue. As for join will be avoiding anything similar to this style with these specific materials in the future! ... show more

Holy cow , perfectly comfortable out of the box. Lightweight, looks great, fits perfect with a wide toe box and plenty of arch support with a supportive heal area, trust me these are nice. And true to size I'm a size 10 and these are spot on.
