These are the third pair I have purchased in three years. I still have and use the previous pairs. I wear these daily in the shop or in the yard, garden and woods. I like that they provide good support, have a wider toe box which makes the fit better, and are waterproof. With this pair, the fit was comfortable right out of the box. No break in required. The laces provided with these are a better length as well. The previous two had laces that were too long. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the glue on parts of the sole and toe cap starts failing between 1 and 2 years. I have been able to regular them to keep them functional, but at this price point, the glue should hold up longer. ... show more

I love these shoes. They're light for hiking shoes. They're comfortable. Keens run large. I wear an 11.5 in running shoes, 11 in most other shoes, and a 10.5 in all Keens. These are awesome. I like them better than the boots, though all Keen Targhee and Voyageur models are fantastic.

    • Wider front pad than the Merrell Men's Moab 2 Vent Hiking Shoe

I am an experienced rugged trail hiker averaging 6-8 miles a day with three 4 legged companions. I only hike in shoes during the cold winter months for traction, I usually hike in breathable mohair vent 2. Needing a wide front is a must for my feet and the best way for fitting in a new shoe is loosen laces for a 1 mile hike, after tighten all the way to touch but not snug in the lower laces and the last two loops on top tight. Feet swell in long hikes and in cold weather I wear a light weight wool inner sock ( carhart or LLbean) covered by a breathable Ballston Merino Wool over layer . Wear these socks when doing first mile to set laces. This is my first try with the Keen Targhee since since there are days I need water proof and yes these are water proof however my feet sweat because they don't breath. They are more comfortable and traction is good I will not use them in fair weather but they fit the bill for cold rainy and sleety days. ... show more

These are very rugged and comfortable shoes, as long as you don't have to wear them all day. The insoles are pretty hard and after 5 or 6 hours, the bottoms of my feet are killing me. I'm gonna try some different insoles and see if that helps.
