You know the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it?" The Keen Austin design seems to be a hit with travelers, so all I ask is for Keen not to change it! I had a pair of New Balance Minimus for travel for many years and when it was time to replace them due to wear and tear, they no longer made the same design. As with new combat boots in USAF/Army, I put a thick coat of Kiwi on these a couple of times to moisturize the leather and seal it from water exposure as well as make it easier to shake dust off while traveling. I will be all over Europe in these and will provide an update after the trip. UPDATE: Walked through 10 cities in 8 Baltic countries in these. Excellent fit and no hot spots after arduous walking. I gave them another coat of kiwi and installed a quick lace system (photo right) because the laces they came with would become untied at inopportune moments, such as while biking, and were not the same length between left/right shoes. I’ve had several pairs of these Keen Austins over the last fifteen or so years. They’re Very comfortable and durable. That’s why I keep coming back for them. They work well for office, casual and on fairly clean jobsites. I have some foot issues- heel spur and two permanently broken bones -in one foot. The Keens provide good support and cushioning. They feel a lot like a pair of zero drop trail running shoes, but with a leather upper that won’t look dorky with khaki pants. When these wear out I’ll get another pair. But that shouldn’t be for a couple of years. I’m a big fan. Keens are peachy keen. ... show more

This is 5th consecutive pair of the Keen Austin shoes I have had. Each pair has lasted approximately 2 years with heavy, daily wear followed by regular use in the garden after they have lost their first sheen. I love them and hope that Keen never stops making the model. They fit well, have a large toe box and after they are broken in fit like a glove. I've ordered my Keen Austin shoes 1 year and 6 months ago. I wear them around the office, and also at home (on occasion). Here are my observations: Sizing: Sizing is spot on. I like Keens because I have a high-volume foot. Keen shoes generally fit my feet very well and give my toes some room. Which is good because I have back issues and diabetic issues. Appearance: These look snazzy. I like the earthy colors and the leather looks rich. The sole looks great, too. Feel: Here is where the review starts to head south. The collar of the shoe feels uncomfortable (the padded ring around the ankle). The lining material inside of the shoe looks like leather but feels like plastic. The leather of the shoe feels very stiff. I've worn these 3x a week for 18 months and they still don't feel like they've "broken in". They also feel heavy. I have a previous version of this shoe (made in the USA), and it feels lighter and definitely feels broken in. This version, however, feels like a shoe you might buy while on vacation in another country at a market. You'd be thinking "Wow, a pair of Keen shoes for a cheap price! They must be knock-offs, but they look great!". Then you buy them, take them home and a month later you are telling yourself "Yeah, these don't feel like Keen shoes at all. They look like them, but they just don't have the Keen feel." Wear: These shoes wear like iron. The heavy leather (or whatever it is) for the uppers is tough and scrath resistant. Doesn't stretch at all, doesn't like to bend either. The lining of the shoe is likewise tough. It looks like leather, but really cheap plasticky leather. The sole is wearing very well, too. Overall: You know, they aren't the Keen shoes of years past. These feel like forty-dollar shoes, tops. They feel like a shoe you'd buy if you thought that Keen shoes were too expensive, but you liked the look. The only problem is, these ARE Keen shoes. As a tall guy with big feet, I have been unable to find good comfortable shoes that will last. I have been searching for something comfortable and leather that will last for years and be comfortable in the process. I have bought leather shoes in the past like doc martins and such only to have really bad foot pain. A fellow teacher of mine has a pair just like these that he got at a thrift shop 3 years ago and they have hardly aged. I knew that this was something I needed to try. So far they are great and even before breaking in I love them. plenty of room in the toes and good support. Also they are built like a brick outhouse so I know I will have them for years. I couldnt be happier. I plan to wear them until the soles wear out. ... show more

First of all, the service from Shoes Outlet is very good. Received my order much quicker than expected. Their return policy is also quite reasonable. The shoe itself is quite nice, looks well constructed and materials are good quality. The only reason I have returned them is the toe-box was too much for my skinny feet. It was more of the height of the toe-box that was too much as opposed to the width. I like having extra room for the toes to wiggle around which is more natural. I wear an 11.5 US in most shoes, which is what these were. This is my first pair of Keens so I'm learning about the fit. With that said because I really like the shoe I'm going for a half size down and hope that works! ... show more

First, let me say how grateful I am that Keen makes size 17 shoes. This pair looks good and they seem well-made. Unlike some Keens I've bought, they didn't need much breaking in. But they need longer laces; 55" isn't long enough for shoes this big. In spite of the claim on the inserts, they need more arch support to keep me from pronating. ... show more
