I like this level with a built-in ruler, just what I needed to help me install shelves so they are flat. But do wish they had a padding on the back so they do not slide around so easily, while you're trying to draw the line. I may try to make a backing for you it.

    • Shamefully bad packaging from manufacturer

6' level came direct from manufacturer packaged in a pieced-together cardboard "box" no bigger than the level itself, with absolutely zero padding. As a result, the level has several dings on its edges (that correspond to dings in the cardboard packaging that all shipments are subject to, and for which bubble wrap and foam padding are regularly used to deal with). I am waiting on my Stabila beam level to get back from a site so I can determine if this new 6' level is actually straight, or if the shamefully bad packaging has led to it getting bent in transit. It just astonishes me that the manufacturer thinks so little of its brand image or its customers that it would ship items so poorly packaged. ... show more

I've got a much longer digital Stabila level, and a bunch of smaller toolbox levels, but I wanted something a bit larger to use for home improvement and repair projects. This is just the right size to use to level a picture frame on the wall, for small trim projects, installing a sink, or whatever else you're doing. I really like the solidity of the aluminum frame, and the built-in ruler is great for quick measurements and centering items. I'm really impressed at the quality for the price, and highly recommend this as a step up from the cheap plastic levels, but where you don't want (and need) to pay Stabila prices. I checked it against 3 other levels. Appears to be very very close when all stacked on top of one another. Checked it against the 50 inch straight edge accurate to .003" over 50". I can not get a .003" feeler gauge between the two. I am satisfied with the flatness of the flat side. Not so sure if I love the measure along one side. It would be hard to hold it against a vertical stud or wall without the handle in the center. As you can see I put a sand bag on one end and use it to cantilever over the baby table saw and get it level and coplanar to the infeed and outfeed tables. This was impossible with the 4' Stanley level. This is why I bought it. Worth every one of the $40 it cost. I am sure I will find it indispensable many times before I die and leave it to my son. ... show more
