  • Just what I wanted
Over the years I have tried many air mattresses. None have worked out for me. No matter what, they always go flat! With these I figured that with the open felled foam interior even if they did go flat you wouldn't be laying directly on the hard ground. It turns out, these worked exactly as anticipated. We used these to camp for a couple of days and on the second day when I woke up I thought that the mattress seemed a little flatter than when I went to sleep. When I went to roll it up I found out that the mattress did indeed have a pretty decent size hole in it. The thing is, even though I noticed it was lower than when I went to sleep, it didn't wake me up. Plus, I wasn't positive it was truly low on air, I only suspected it. Had this been a regular air mattress there would have been no wondering if it was low. I have tried the very thin self inflating matts in the past. Those are so thin that when they lose air there is too little foam between you and the ground to make any difference. With these it is just thick enough to keep you comfortable. There are two reasons I knocked this to 4 stars from 5. First is they can be pretty challenging to roll up. I don't have an issue with it but my wife cannot do it. Second is that they are pretty easy to puncture. They come with a kit to repair holes which I'll get to use soon. The hole actually came from the straps that you use to hold the mattress in the rolled up state. Velcro straps may be a better idea instead of straps with clips. ... show more

  • I hate sleepng on a cot and even worse a little ...
I hate sleepng on a cot and even worse a little camping pad. So when I realized I'd be helping my boy's scout troop go on a camping trip once a month for a weekend each month, plus a week long summer camp, as well as family camp trip, I decided I needed to make some changes in my sleeping pad. The air mattresses have left me flat on the ground one too many times - Completely unreliable. I had high hopes for this pad I have to say. I bought it and took it on a week long camping trip and was I ever happy!!!! I was on a cot plus this pad for most of it but cots are not comfy to me either. I did have to sleep on the ground one night and it was still very comfy. I'm a side sleeper so my hip digs into the ground and I usually toss and turn all night but this one was wonderful. I'm so happy with it!! Now this is not a backpacking pad. It's heavy and it's a bit annoying to roll up but it is soooo worth it. Now if I can just keep my boys from using it.... Hmmmm. They're taking it camping now too because it ROCKS!! Worth every penny. Not sure how reliable it will be but it's been used 4 full weeks plus a weekend trip just this summer. So getting a lot of use out of it. I just hope it holds up. I'll post a Reply if it doesn't hold up or when it gives out. But I am one happy camper with this pad!!!! ... show more

  • Heavy and large but durable and comfortable
General Thoughts: this camping pad is on the far end of the comfort vs portability trade off. It is comfortable for those who like plush mattresses but is big and heavy. This is more comparable to an air mattress or portable mattress than to a traditional backpack camping pad. Weight: about 12.5lbs Rolled up size: sphere with 8" diameter and 32" length Pros: this pad is comfortable and feels durable. The bottom of the pad has a rough side to prevent sliding and solid stiching. The pad inflated easily by itself. I didn't feel the need to add extra air manually to increase the firmness but I do prefer a soft mattress. The pad is about 4 inches thick. Cons: this is a heavy and large sleeping pad. It can easily be carried a few hundred feet, but this is not something you will want to carry around during a back packing trip. The carry bag felt cheap so the bag or carry straps might have fatigue issues down the road. I also felt the cost seems a bit high for just a twin at the $100+ mark but worth it if it is on sale. Additionally, it was a bit hard to roll back up due to the large amount of foam. Lastly, the air hole you open up to inflate the mattress doesn't have a mouth piece on it. Like I said above, I didn't feel the need to manually add air but it might be a bit annoying to do so. ... show more

  • Hands down this was the single best purchase I made
I bought this pad for a 15,000 mile road trip across the US I recently completed. Hands down this was the single best purchase I made. It fit nicely in the back of a Chevy Tahoe with room next to it for a couple of those blue Rubbermaid bins and a cooler. I slept on it 6 nights a week for months - the one night I stayed in a hotel each week was always my worst sleep. Pros Extremely comfortable! Way better than any air mattress I've ever slept on including those huge king size ones. Because there is so much padding built in, even when it's low on air it's still comfortable Tough - I put a lot of use on it in a short period of time and no issues as all. Never need to inflate it - as long as you open the valves for an hour or so before bed it feels as good as new. If you sleep on it for a few days without opening up the valves it does start to feel like a water bed, but unlike other air mattresses that are low the foam padding keeps your elbows and hips off the ground. Cons Not much to complain about, but it's not very portable as it doesn't roll down small at all. The only other "issue" is that you do need to open the valves to let it fill back up each night or two, but that wasn't really a big deal. Overall a great comfortable pad that's absolutely perfect for road tripping in back of a truck. ... show more
