    • Aftermarket filters do in fact make more power .
Jason Fenske of YouTube’s “Engineering Explained” put auto filters to the test. The aftermarket filters do in fact make more power than the OEM units. The K&N filter made around four horsepower and five lb.-ft. of torque, or around 2.6 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively over the standard stock paper filters. Based on those results, you might want to go out and buy one unless you typically drive on dirt roads. For late model Mazda 3s (2019 +), you have other options that we can combine with this filter. The fact is the Skyactive-G engine was detuned for the US and Canadian markets to support low octane gas. But hear is the good news: the factory headers don’t’ need to be upgraded. They were optimized for the high compression ratios this engine has naturally. Get this filter and marry it to a tune using premium fuel and real horsepower and torque can be realized. It won’t be enough to throw you back hard in your seat, but you will feel it and it’s what the Mazda engineers originally envisioned before the marketing department got in the way. It puts the Zoom Zoom back into this vehicle so it’s a fun ride when you hit sports mode. ... show more

This K&N engine intake air filter works very well, just like all of the other great K&N products. I purchased this air filter (Part#: 33-5096) for our new 2023 Mazda 3 Hatchback Carbon Edition. It fits the 2.5 L normally aspirated engine's intake airbox perfectly. FYI.....The K&N air filter for the 2.5 L turbocharged engine is a different size and part number. I highly recommend this air filter, and all other K&N products. ... show more

    • Not quite as well made as I expected.
Although it seems to be well made, it doesn't fit as precisely as does the Mazda filter it replaced. The sealing edges don't perfectly fit the air filter box sealing surfaces. It does fit well enough, and apparently it will seal just fine, but this is a bit of a disappointment. As to the claims of more HP and better fuel efficiency--well, maybe, especially compared to a filter that has become dirty and restrictive. Compared to a clean, new paper filter, it probably does flow more air, so maybe there are a few more ponies to be found; but only at wide open throttle and high RPM. I don't feel a difference, but I didn't really expect to. I like it mainly because it won't have to be replaced, just cleaned from time to time. ... show more
