This item is made of solid steel, and it is heavy. This hitch is NOT made out of tubing. This thing is one solid piece of steel. It is braced, and the welds are heavy. If you would like to keep your trailer behind you where it belongs, then this behemoth is for you.

    • Actual drop on this hitch does not match the description. Measure carefully before ordering.
Be advised that the listed 7 1/2" drop is not accurate. I called Curt to check the specs, but the delivered shank only only has a drop of 7". According to Curts own catelog diagrams the drop is measured from the top edge of the shank body that inserts into the receiver to the center of the lowest hole. Also if you look at the photos of the product, both on The Amazon & Curt site, the 2nd hole lines up with the hole in the shank that holds it in the receiver. Instead it lines up with the top edge (when turned in the down position). This makes the drop shorter. That 1/2" makes a difference for me & perhaps others. It barely drops enough to keep my trailer level while towing. I wanted a bit of margin. I have a Curt hitch that has served me well and am disappointed that their quality control does not match the specs. The shank is well made and has sound welds. If I had known this I would have ordered the 17120, but am not sure if the drop on that one is what the specs say. ... show more

the curt shank is solid and will last no doubt there. but the 17100 is NOT a 7" drop! it is only a 2.5" drop and 5" (ish) rise. I went to the curt website and they had the specific drop listed on the page. if your looking for legit up to 7" drop look at the Curt 17123 also available on amazon for same price. ... show more

Worked great for the minor adjustments steering the ride height differences between towing an empty trailer or when the trailer squatted over an inch when it was loaded. Kept my tow vehicle level as well as the trailer level which is important when you have a 3 axle trailer. Load Leveler Bars worked great with this hitch as well. I recommend this hitch. ... show more

Fine product, just beware of how much drop you'll actually need to tow your RV. Bought this because it seems to be pretty standard drop length. Own a stock Toyota 4X4 (so nothing outrageously high off the ground), but tis hitch bar didn't drop down far enogh. Amazon kind enough to refund moneyand S&H so that I may purchase another (longer drop - 17120)to properly hook up and tow my RV. Fine product, sure it would've worked great, but.... So just beware if you own a 4X4 that this may not drop far enough down. ... show more

    • The specs dont seem to be accurate
This was listed as a 7 1/2" drop but its only 2 1/4" longer than the 2" drop I already have making it around 4 1/2. Others have pointed out this discrepancy as well. Each hole is supposed to be 1 1/4" on center so take a look at the pic and judge for yourself. Searching all over the Internet as well as on CURT's website I get various different answers. ... show more
