Great book! Has a big selection of songs to learn from beginner to intermediate. Definitely recommend!

  • Piano teacher recommended!
Format: Paperback
PIANO TEACHER RECOMMENDED: Fantastic collection of original classical works for beginner to intermediate piano! I am a piano teacher and have recommended this for many students. DIFFICULTY/PACING: For beginner 2-hand (about year 1-2 depending on age/individual) through intermediate level. It’s organized in order of difficulty, making it easy to go through page by page. The difficulty pacing is good. FORMATTING: Nice clear formatting, easy to read, large size music for beginners, good note/staff spacing (unlike many other classical collections which are messy and difficult to read). ALL ORIGINALS, NO ARRANGEMENTS: These are all original classical works! I have no problem with arrangements (as long as they’re good), but of course there’s incredible value in learning original works. No one has to feel like they’re learning the “simple version” here — they’re learning the real thing. PIECES INCLUDED: It’s a nice combination of well-known standards and more obscure pieces. You can find a full Table of Contents on the product listing. The final piece is Fur Elise, which is a great motivator especially since many students never reach that level! Several of my current students are really excited to be able to play that when they finish this book. I highly recommend this collection for earlier level pianists who want to learn original classical works and prepare for more challenging pieces. ... show more

My kid loves learning the songs from this book and tries to learn songs that are outside of class assignments. It was recommended by her piano teacher and it is awesome!

  • Great selection! Every pianist needs one!
Format: Paperback
Almost “perfect” for what I wanted… Great selection of songs! Just needs to be SPIRAL BOUND!

  • Nice compilation for beginner to intermediate pianists
Format: Paperback
As a returning adult piano student there’s a lot to like about this handy compilation of piano pieces. I can start with the beginner pieces now and work my way through as my knowledge and experience grow. I appreciate that the focus or lesson of each piece is called out, so if I feel like practicing eighth notes, for example, I know which pieces to choose. With 98 selections included I will be enjoying this book for a long time. It arrived well-packaged and in perfect condition, but I’ve removed one star because the book doesn’t sit flat on the music stand without bending the binding, so I have doubts about how well it will hold up over time. A spiral binding would allow it to sit flat, and for the pianist to easily turn the pages, and I would be willing to pay a few dollars more. ... show more

  • Don't you just love when things are in order?
Format: Paperback
I really, really, really love this book. I work at a music store so I have the opportunity to peruse all of the popular method and song books and there are a few other books where the songs are rated in difficulty but, surprisingly, no other book actually puts the songs in a logical, gradual, easy-to-more-difficult order. For me, this book is a dream because I have a lot of knowledge of music theory from being around music so long and playing other instruments but my actual playing and reading piano music is weak and un-exercised. When I find the time, I do a song or two in the book, in order, and each song has been enough of a challenge to make it interesting but conquered quickly enough to keep me motivated. Because there are so many songs (though most of them are rather short) it really feels like no song is much harder than the last. If I don't take a long break between learning two songs, the next song comes very quickly. If I wait, it's a little harder but not impossible. It really keeps your music muscles working without fatiguing. I can't recommend this book enough. I've decided to order some copies of the complete version for my store since we only have volume 3 and 4. ... show more

  • Great Book!
Format: Paperback
I am teaching myself piano but have a classical background (violin) so I have a good foundation in music. This book was perfect for me because it gives me the opportunity to play “real” music even though I’m a beginner, and doesn’t hold my hand too much. And the music in it is just good music for the most part. My ooooonly gripe is that I wish the book was spiral bound so it would stay open more easily while you’re playing. I have to use clothespins to hold the book open, no matter how much I tried to “break in” the spine :/ I can forgive that for my new favorite piano book though :) ... show more
