  • Great time saver. Well made.
Pattern Name: Deck Mate
Make installation faster and gaps were more consistent. Used 3 on 12 and 16 foot boards. Set boards with several screws before putting in all screws this insured gap consistency.

  • Hold the gap tool

  • Deckmate Deck Plank Gauge
Pattern Name: Deck Mate
I had purchased one of these items years ago when I was building a deck. When I started putting down the boards for my latest deck I wanted to get a second Deckmate Deck Plank Gauge. I looked locally and no one carried them. I was already familiar with the product so I knew what I wanted. I ordered two through Amazon, just in case needed three total. I should have ordered three. I'm using ten foot lumber for the deck boards and I could use one more. The tool works great. It does exactly what it says it it will do. I have also used it to build a 5' Cedar privacy fence for my parents in law. One side has a 1/8" spacer and the other is a 3/16" spacer. With wood decking as with wood fencing if the boards are warped you can switch spacers very easy to keep the boards lined up. If you need to really clamp down on the spacer in lining up the boards you can still remove the Spacing Gauge. It stays slightly elevated off the work so it's easy to pry it out if you have to. Overall this is the most handy tool I have found for spacing either deck boards or privacy fencing. ... show more

  • Does what it is supposed to do
Pattern Name: Deck Mate
I like this for determining spacing. Not sure about the holes in it. They are not useful at all as screws do not fit through the holes. Overall a good item to space deck boards

  • Helps keep nice clean spacing between deck boards
Pattern Name: Deck Mate
Helps keep nice clean spacing between deck boards, have a few on hand, add a board bender tool into the mix for wood decking and you should be golden.

  • Just buy it! You won’t be sorry!
Pattern Name: Deck Mate
My husband said this was the best purchase while he was building our deck! I bought two of them and do not regret it one bit! Much nicer than the cheap-o one he had before this.

  • Buy more than one you won't regret it.
Pattern Name: Deck Mate
About 15 years ago at Lowe's I bought a deckmate spacing tool. They no longer sell them. Looked on Amazon they're now being branded as Johnson. It's the exact same tool same specs 100% identical except for color. I use three of them on a 16 ft deck bored. I didn't realize I had lost one otherwise I would have bought three of them. A 16-ft run I would definitely use four spacers. Saves time for running back and forth and checking the gaps. After 15 years and they're being made identical that should tell you something about the quality of these spacers. And like one other reviewer said you could go to the trouble of ripping a piece of wood and set it in there but that's going to take time and more material and with these things being only $9 each it's not worth the headache of ripping your own spacing board. ... show more

  • A must have if you build a lot of decks
Pattern Name: Deck Mate
Simple, durable product that makes life so much easier when installing deck boards. They are not super expensive yet pay for themselves on your first deck. A no brainer in my opinion I definitely recommend adding a few of these to your arsenal!!
