  • Good choice at a nice price
Color: Jungle Green Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine (0.38 mm)
I think the pens work well. They are nice to use and the price is not so bad. I like the colors that I bought. If you are interested in getting a fountain pen and do not want to spend a lot for them, these are a good start. If you want to write the way they did before the ball point pen was used, these are a great choice. No doubt people will want to know about it when they see you writing. This pen got good reviews in videos too. ... show more

  • Nice pen for the price - some Jinhao's are better, though.
Color: Transparent (Gold Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
I own about a dozen Jinhao fountain pens. I love them for how inexpensive they are - for the cost of an ink converter with other pens you get the entire pen WITH a converter. I bought this variety because it is transparent and my favorite variety (the X750) didn't come in a transparent version. This variety (Jinhao 82) is very nice, but doesn't quite live up to the best in class (in my opinion) X750, for a couple of reasons. First off, the X750 nib is nicer than this one. IMPORTANT: If you want really smooth writing it is best to go with Medium nibs on these pens. The fine nibs work OK, they are just not nearly as smooth and have some scratchiness to them (or "feedback" in fancy non-critical speak). As to the mediums, the all-silver nibs that come on the X750 are smoother than the gold and silver nibs that come on this pen and another Jinhao pen, the X450. I replaced all my two-tone nibs on my X450's with all-silver nibs and will be doing so with this Jinhao 82 as well. They are available on Amazon for a reasonable price and in my opinion really outshine the (admittedly beautiful) two-tone nibs in performance. Another drawback I found with this pen, that is likely specific to the transparent version, is that after you wash it for first use, or to change inks, there are a couple of areas that retain water. Specifically in the cap and in the nib area there are "plastic within plastic" areas that water gets into that are inaccessible to a paper towel to dry. I worry that the water may not dry in time to prevent mold, mildew or staining, but I have not owned them long enough to verify that. This same issue is probably going on in the other Jinhao 82 pens, but you can't see it because they aren't clear. Another characteristic of this pen to note is that it is quite small. It is the only fountain pen I own that I prefer to keep posted when I write, with the cap on the back, because otherwise it feels a bit to small in my (average sized) hands. Despite its smallness, the ink capacity is quite decent for a pen of this size. After noting the drawbacks, I still give this pen a 5 star rating because, as with other Jinhao pens, for the price it is an amazing value. If you happen to be new to fountain pens this would be a great low cost choice if you are in love with the design. However, if you are new, my recommendation would be to get the X750 series instead with a medium nib. Further, purchase some bottled ink and read reviews for an ink that is NOT described as dry (all varieties of Pilot iroshizuku are great - yama budo, specifically, is fantastic) and get some QUALITY paper (I recommend Mnemosyne). Paper and ink quality make an INSANE difference in writing experience. With a Jinhao X750, iroshizuku ink and Mnemosyne paper you will not believe the smoothness - almost like writing on glass. Unfortunately, the better inks and papers cost more. Luckily, with Jinhao pens you can save some money because even with the super low cost they perform just as well as much more expensive pens - use that extra money for the ink and paper. ... show more

  • Replacement is good
Color: Purple Clear (Silver Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
A more blue toned purple than I was expecting from review pics but still pretty. Glad they have them in silver trim. Wish they also had the volcano gray in silver trim. Took off a star because my first one had a trash nib that was super scratchy, sent it back for replacement. New one is smooth. I’d have tried messing with nib myself if these were still $3.50 on AliExpress etc but thanks to trump’s bs ever-changing tariffs and these being from a Chinese maker, they’re now $8.59- over double the price they used to be. Thanks trump! 👏🏻 ... show more

  • This pen outclassed the Kaweco sport - awesome !
Color: Peacock Blue (Gold Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
This pen is a very pleasant surprise. I put this pen and the transparent purple into my order as an impulse mainly because they were so inexpensive. And wow what a value buy. This pen outclassed the Kaweco Sport bold nib which clogged within minutes of use with a thicker ink. I used Ferris wheel press - tears of sapphire which is a big sheen/shimmer and it keeps on going 2 weeks - no clogs no problems no mess- this pen rocks! And it’s smooooooth! Don’t let the low price scare you away this is a beast of a pen! I’m ordering the fine and extra fine next! ... show more

  • Get the pen!
Color: Avocado Green (Silver Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
I was a little hesitant to spend money on this knockoff pen being burned before with these types of pens but I really wanted another sailor pen and did not want to invest in that right now so I looked up these jonhao pens and thought I would take a chance! I have since then bought two more of these pens and probably will buy more! This pen is phenomenal for its price. Writes very smooth and is the perfect toss in your bag for work pen! I have included a photo of it next to my sailor pro gear. (This pen is more a slim size) but still comfortable. It does not skip, burp, or railroad! It does not have any line variation but neither does my real sailor pen in extra fine. The only thing this one is missing is that “sailor feedback” but you’re going to pay 100’s for that. Get the pen! Trust me It’s worth it! ... show more

  • Doesn't work
Color: Black (Silver Trim) Style: Bent (0.5-1.0 mm)
Got this pen yesterday. Cleaned it out, let the nib dry overnight. I noticed while cleaning it out that there was s small amount of dark fluid in the nib or converter already -- ink? machine oil? who knows? That's why I clean pens out before filling them. Anyway, today I tried it out, and it didn't work. Tried filling the converter, detached from the rest of the pen, with Platinum Carbon ink, and the converter filled, but the pen didn't write. I put the cap on and left it sitting nib-down for half an hour, then tried it again -- still didn't write. Then I tried emptying out the converter, and filling it again, this time while inserted into the nib assembly. This time, the converter just wouldn't draw a significant amount of ink -- just a drop or two. Most likely there's a blockage of some kind inside the nib or the feed. ... show more

  • Skips when writing
Color: Olive Green Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
Affordable price but this pen skips a lot. Even after changing ink I am having issues handwriting. I own a Jinhao x750 that doesn’t have this problem that was about the same price here on amazon. This is my first fountain pen though so it could be user error (improper grip, too much pressure, etc.)

  • Great value for money fountain pen! Jinhao is a budget king of fountain pens
Color: Dark Blue Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine (0.38 mm)
Really enjoyable to write with. Ink flow will generally be dependent on a multitude of factors such as the ink you have at your disposal. With the ones that I have, it is quite smooth. Weight is decent especially for a plastic pen. Not a heavy pen but not too light either. From time to time, I would just quickly flush it through some running water in between ink changes. The price point is the best part. ... show more
