  • Nice pen for the price - some Jinhao's are better, though.
Color: Transparent (Gold Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
I own about a dozen Jinhao fountain pens. I love them for how inexpensive they are - for the cost of an ink converter with other pens you get the entire pen WITH a converter. I bought this variety because it is transparent and my favorite variety (the X750) didn't come in a transparent version. This variety (Jinhao 82) is very nice, but doesn't quite live up to the best in class (in my opinion) X750, for a couple of reasons. First off, the X750 nib is nicer than this one. IMPORTANT: If you want really smooth writing it is best to go with Medium nibs on these pens. The fine nibs work OK, they are just not nearly as smooth and have some scratchiness to them (or "feedback" in fancy non-critical speak). As to the mediums, the all-silver nibs that come on the X750 are smoother than the gold and silver nibs that come on this pen and another Jinhao pen, the X450. I replaced all my two-tone nibs on my X450's with all-silver nibs and will be doing so with this Jinhao 82 as well. They are available on Amazon for a reasonable price and in my opinion really outshine the (admittedly beautiful) two-tone nibs in performance. Another drawback I found with this pen, that is likely specific to the transparent version, is that after you wash it for first use, or to change inks, there are a couple of areas that retain water. Specifically in the cap and in the nib area there are "plastic within plastic" areas that water gets into that are inaccessible to a paper towel to dry. I worry that the water may not dry in time to prevent mold, mildew or staining, but I have not owned them long enough to verify that. This same issue is probably going on in the other Jinhao 82 pens, but you can't see it because they aren't clear. Another characteristic of this pen to note is that it is quite small. It is the only fountain pen I own that I prefer to keep posted when I write, with the cap on the back, because otherwise it feels a bit to small in my (average sized) hands. Despite its smallness, the ink capacity is quite decent for a pen of this size. After noting the drawbacks, I still give this pen a 5 star rating because, as with other Jinhao pens, for the price it is an amazing value. If you happen to be new to fountain pens this would be a great low cost choice if you are in love with the design. However, if you are new, my recommendation would be to get the X750 series instead with a medium nib. Further, purchase some bottled ink and read reviews for an ink that is NOT described as dry (all varieties of Pilot iroshizuku are great - yama budo, specifically, is fantastic) and get some QUALITY paper (I recommend Mnemosyne). Paper and ink quality make an INSANE difference in writing experience. With a Jinhao X750, iroshizuku ink and Mnemosyne paper you will not believe the smoothness - almost like writing on glass. Unfortunately, the better inks and papers cost more. Luckily, with Jinhao pens you can save some money because even with the super low cost they perform just as well as much more expensive pens - use that extra money for the ink and paper. ... show more

  • Excellent value pretty fountain pens - recommended!
Color: Purple Clear (Silver Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
I purchased 2 of these pens a lilac with 'silver' trim and semi-transparent teal with 'gold' trim. They are really attractive looking pens, the lilac one especially is so pretty. The design is based on a Sailor Pro Gear Slim, a luxury pen with a gold nib. You are obviously not going to get the same quality for less than 10 bucks, but they are excellent little pens. They come with a cheap but serviceable converter and also fit Jinhoa cartridges. I found a wetter ink gave a smoother writing experience. My one negative, is that the teal pen is a noticeable smoother writer than the lilac pen (which is still nice with the right ink). So at this price point there is probably less quality control and some variability. Overall, highly recommended and made me go try some other Jinhoa pens (I also really liked the Jinhoa 100). ... show more

  • It writes very fine
Color: Coffee Fluorescent (Gold Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
Not a smooth writer. Writes very fine and a bit scratchy. Ink dries quickly. Quality seems good. Easy to use. Grip is comfortable. Thickness is very fine. I am re-learning to write with a fountain pen which will take a bit of time. This pen for Me is not smooth but feels rather scratchy. I do like it. ... show more

  • Very Nice Pen
Color: Coffee Fluorescent (Gold Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
Jinhao 82 Acrylic Fountain Pen, Iridium Medium Nib with Ink Converter. The coffee colored pen was paired with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Brown ink creating a pleasing combination. A very nice fountain pen for the price point. I was looking for a simple fountain pen to carry out of the office. This pen is light weight, well balanced, and writes well especially on quality paper. With a variety of fountain pens in my collection, this has quickly become a favorite. A note to beginners and seasoned users, be sure to prep the nip prior to first use. For beginners, there are great YouTube videos from JetPens, Goulet Pens and Goldspot Pens on how to prep a nib. The process is easy, so don't let it stop you from enjoying this way of writing. The only quality issue was with the cap when the internal component with the band separated when posted. A small drop of super glue on the threads before screwing the cap parts together was a quick fix. ***This is a user review. Not bot generated. ... show more

  • So disappointed
Color: Purple Clear (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine (0.38 mm)
I’m so disappointed. The pen is very pretty and a nice, balanced weight. However, after filling it with my favorite ink, it barely writes at all. If any ink comes out, it is intermittent and scratchy. The first movement of each word or letter is dry.

  • Pretty pen with a botched nib; a Jinhao standard.
The pen looks really nice. The materials seem good, and the design is pleasant to look at and to hold. However, the pen came with the feed not aligned with the nib (it's slanted slightly to the right in this case). The nib tines seem a bit too tightly closed, too. Both of these issues are pretty common for Jinhao pens, too, it seems! I'm not the only one reporting this. This company could invest in some quality control and check the calibration on their production line machinery... Both of these issues are, of course, correctable. And, once corrected, the pen is otherwise pretty good! ... show more

  • Great pen, holds ink well, no drips, no blotches!
Color: Transparent (Gold Trim) Style: Extra Fine (0.38 mm)
FABULOUS pen!! The nib was a little too fine for me, as I prefer a thicker/bolder print .... But I was able to sand the nib down a bit and am BERY happy with my results!! The pens thickness is good for my hand (I am left handed and most fountain pens end up with me having "Inky Pinky" where my hand turns up covered in ink and my handwriting is smudged .... But because the ink flow is smooth, the thickness of the pen is just right and there is no leaking or smudging, I have been able to avoid the dreaded Inky Pinky so far! Great pen and SUPER affordable :) (also I appreciate that when I run out of ink, I can change the color of it! ... show more

  • This is my new favorite fountain pen
Color: Transparent (Gold Trim) Style: Medium (0.7 mm)
I recently purchased this Chinese-made fountain pain with a medium nib. It quickly became my new favorite fountain pen. I've purchased various Lamy, Pilot, and Kaweco fountain pens in the last year or so, but there's always been something that frustrates me about each one. It's either the nib that just doesn't feel right, or some skip every so often, and others just are not very comfortable to hold due to the grip section design. This inexpensive Jinhao fountain pen is the best pen I've purchased. It just feels right in my hand, no weird design or uncomfortable step in the grip section. It's just a pleasure to hold. Not too heavy, not too light. I got the translucent plastic model and it looks very nice. I'm a bit obsessive, always wondering how much ink is in the pen, if I'm going to run out of ink at the worst moment, etc. With this pen I can see how much ink is in the converter. The medium nib is so smooth and puts out just the right amount of ink. I ordered a bottle of Waterman Serenity Blue Ink along with this pen and it's just a great combination. This pen now goes everywhere with me, along with my fauxdory traveler's notebook. Goes to prove that more expensive doesn't always translate to better quality, or a better writing experience. I will definitely look into other Jinhao fountain pen models in the future. ... show more
