  • Great skates!
First off, skates in general seem to run large yet narrow. I wear a 9.5 shoe, regular width. (In shoes that don't have half-sizes, I wear a 10.) With skates, I have what are considered to be wide feet. (This is a common shoe-to-skate conversion: having normal-width shoes but needing wide-width skates.) At any rate, I just want to help people with sizing. I ordered these skates in a 9, and they fit perfectly with a nice pair of cushy, thick socks. I knew, based on my experience with skates, that the 10s would be too big. The 9s are great. I hope this is helpful info! I love these skates! They came sharpened in a way that is great for my somewhat-beginner skating. They're pretty with the purple, and I love the silver detailing. They feel good on my feet and have more support than I thought a beginner skate would have (albeit, I am a beginning skater). The only flaw is that the upper sides (where the metal lace-holders are) are bent out too wide. This is readily fixed by tightening your laces extra tight. I'm not sure if the flimsy white/purple laces that came with these skates would be up to it, but I use my own laces anyway. If you get thick hockey laces like I use, they help keep your skates tightened. (I don't know of any skate on the market that comes with substantial laces, so I'm hesitant to remove a star for it.) For these skates, I'd recommend using 108" hockey laces, which come in many pretty colors. ... show more

  • Great quality and true to size
Size: 8 Women's Style: Finesse 180 Hight Top Lace Up Medium Sup... Color: White/Fleece
I want to preface this review with the fact that I was a competitive figure skater for over a decade. It is to know that figure skates (and hockey skates) need to be true to size to provide the adequate support for safety and comfort. Unfortunately, a pair skates is not one of those pieces of sports equipment that you can buy in hopes your child will grow into and putting on thick socks is not a solution as it can put the skater at risk for a twisted ankle or worse. That said, I bought these recreational Jackson skates for my mother who hasn't skated in at least 30 years. I was happy with the support they offered as well as the accuracy of fit. No, they do not come sharpened. If you are going to get on the ice before having them sharpened, take a coffee filter and some vegetable oil and apply them to the blades to make sure the factory adhesive is off. ... show more

  • Faulty Hooks
Size: 2 Misses Style: Finesse 180 Hight Top Lace Up Medium Sup... Color: White/Purple
We purchased these skates Jan 20, and within 6 weeks (once weekly use for 30-90 minutes) 3 or 4 of the hooks had broken. I contacted the seller on 4/28 to inquire about replacement or refund. They responded that they wanted me to take the skates and get the hooks repaired, they would then reimburse me the money. The skate shops where I live don't have equipment to repair these hooks (they could repair metal eyelets). I don't appreciate having to search down a repair shop as it is taking more time than it's worth. I have put in a second request for refund or credit towards another pair and may update the review if that is sufficiently answered. Aside from the hooks, the fit and quality seemed fine for the price. UPDATE: as promised, I wanted to update the review now that I've heard back from the seller (4 Sports) - they ultimately agreed to refund the purchase which I appreciate. I have adjusted the stars to 2 "don't like it" from 1 "hate it." I'm satisfied with the final result, but wish this could have been resolved quicker. I also still am dissatisfied that the hooks were faulty. ... show more

  • Recognized brand in figure skating
Size: Toddler 8 Style: Finesse 181 Hight Top Lace Up Medium Sup... Color: White/Purple
I teach figure skating and learn to skate classes and do bought these skates in size 8 toddler for my 4 year old daughter. Previously we had the pink plastic hockey skates because that’s all we could find for her tiny feet. They never really worked for her. I’ve been wanting to get her figure skates since I think the flatter rocker will be easier for her as she learns (she’s the anxious type and is afraid of falling). These are nice supportive skates and so far I’m impressed. Often times we get beginner skaters in figure skates that are so floppy and unsupported that their ankles bow inward or outward (often fit improperly too). I think this is a good choice for any skater taking group lessons who may possibly be interested in doing more someday. They are more expensive than the ones in a sporting good store but vastly superior. ... show more

  • Lacing system doesn't match quality of skate
Size: 2 Misses Style: Finesse 180 Hight Top Lace Up Medium Sup... Color: White/Fleece
These are great entry level skates. They have great ankle support and overall are sturdy. The real problem is with the hook on the lacing. Flimsy is not an adequate word to describe this metal hook. If a seven year old girl can break the hook by tightening up her laces then there is an issue with the product. I read other complaints about the grommet system but overall these skates had good ratings so I took my chances. luckily hook broke within return window so I got a replacement. They were used for two skating lesson before the hook broke. Oddly enough, I bought the same skate with a different lining (another granddaughter) and the hooks on that skate are super heavy duty. I would steer clear of the Sherpa lined skates and order one of colored linings. The purple lined skates definitely had a superior lacing. Maybe that was a fluke or one skate was an older manufacture but the difference is obvious ... show more

  • A little dirty upon arrival, but not enough to send back
Size: 8 Women's Style: Finesse 180 Hight Top Lace Up Medium Sup... Color: White/Purple
I’m deducting one star, because they were a little dirty upon arrival (as seen in the pic), but not bad enough to go through the trouble of sending them back. (I feel like they may have been a sample pair or a return, as they have obviously been at least tried on already.) After trying them on, they do fit very nicely. I am normally a size 8.5/9 tennis shoe, so after ready the review I bought a size 8. Even with thick socks on, they fit perfectly. They feel much more comfortable than rental skates, however I have thick legs and fat ankles, so the tongue and sides barely close fully around my large calves. Also, I’ve ordered longer laces as the ones they come with don’t lace all the way to the top hook (they lace to the second to last hook up). They also dig into my right calf enough that I know they will be uncomfortable to skate for long periods of time in, but I’m hoping I’ll wear them in. They also will need to be sharpened. I am a beginner and these are my first pair of skates I have owned myself. ... show more
