  • Great product.
Incredible product, relatively easy to install and does exactly what it says.

  • Extremely disappointed in this + the Explorer 5000 battery
The idea is great, but unfortunately it just doesn't work. The smart transfer switch has a nice app that allows you control circuits independently, setup schedules for charging and discharging the attached battery, etc. If it worked, it would be really great. I wanted to use the battery for emergency backup, but also to supply some of my power during the daily peak period when prices are high. I got everything setup the way I want it, but then realized the battery won't hold a charge as long as it's plugged into the smart transfer switch. The battery seems to work fine as a standalone device, but when it's plugged into the STS, it loses charge pretty quickly, even when the system is not using ANY power from the battery. Either I keep re-charging it, or it dies completely and disconnects from the STS, so then I have no backup power. I've contacted support numerous times. They ask about firmware versions, etc. and then they say this shouldn't be happening and they'll look into it and get back to me. I'll update the post if they ever make this work. Right now I feel like I've wasted over $7,000 between this equipment and the electrician costs. UPDATE: Jackery support emailed and called me after I posted this and they provided some detailed information on how this system works. When it’s in UPS mode, meaning you have uninterrupted power in the event of a grid outage, the battery unit uses a constant 50 watts. That’s why my battery drains so quickly. You can put it into a backup only mode and it won’t drain the battery until there’s a grid outage. BUT, there are two big drawbacks to this mode: 1) if the grid power goes out, it takes 5 seconds for the battery to come on, 2) you can’t use the scheduled charge/discharge plan which allows you to automatically switch to battery everyday during peak (expensive) hours. Bottom line: it doesn’t work as expected and since I had already poured so much $ into this project, I had to spend another $2,000 to add an additional battery to achieve my desired outcome. Disappointed. ... show more

  • Needed a firmware update to function normally...
I bought the STS with the e5000 and 500x panels. The panels are nice and the STS seems to work. It has nice software and the amount of breakers you can fit and the control you have is great compared to other options. Regrettably, the system barely works as advertized for me. The e5000 will drop power repeatedly when you place the whole system on backup mode under moderate loads. Placing the system on UPS mode seems to help but then the house lights flicker periodically (random voltage drops) and the unit drains drastically as the software cycles between the e5000 and the grid for some reason until the battery is dead. It's not just the UPS inverter drawing 50 watts that causes the battery to drain, theres something in the software causing the STS to draw on the e5000 constantly in UPS mode, even when set to pull from the grid. In other words, you can't leave the system in the UPS mode and expect to charge the battery adequatly with your low voltage PV panels during the day. Thus, to use the system as advertised and run my circuits off energy storage during TOU peak period, I have to remember to place the system on UPS mode at 4pm, and then turn it off again at 9pm. Otherwise my power will fluctuate or the battery will not adequately charge during the day. This can't be what Jackery had in mind... I contacted their support, and after two weeks with repeated statements from them that someone from their engineering team will contact me, nothing has happened. If you're looking at this as a comprehensive home backup that can do TOU export like its competitors, I'd be extremely wary. There seems to be several issues and no one available to assist or trouble shoot. After this investment I'd love to make it work, but if I can't get some help then I'll likely be pursuing a full refund. UPDATE: Jackery eventually pushed a firmware update to my STS which seems to have solved the problem. The house now switches to backup at start of TOU without drama. System is now working as expected. I've read on forums this is not an isolated issue though. Not sure why it took a month to figure this out or why the system didn't automatically update the firmware on activation. All in all, I still like the setup, and I'm saving some cash with the TOU arbitrage, but be prepared that it might not be plug and play from the outset. ... show more

  • In waitlock .
As of today 8/29/25 we have 2 5000 Plus units , 4 solar saga panels of which we currently use 2 . Now we're waiting on the installation of the smart transfer switch . Although there are 12 slots for breakers , Jackery states that tandem breakers are permissable to use which we have every intention of . Only problem is what circuits can be connected to these breakers & managed via the switch . So this needs to be thought out ahead of or during install , not afterward . The garbage disposal & dishwasher on one breaker & maybe the second floor lighting/outlets on another . But anything of lesser importance vs needed appliances is the name of the game . No matter what , the intended install of this is as a backup system as well as using it to supplement daily living . The thought of Jackery converting to aluminum ion or solid state batteries in the immediate future has me wondering if this is the right move at this time . ... show more
