Wow, my husband and I absolutely love this knife set! We are both retired, both cook often, and was looking for a good knife set with good gripping handles, self-sharpening, and had good-sized steak knives. And boy, did we find it with this product! We have only had this set a week, but so far, we love it! (I will update my review, if anything changes.) We have been hand-washing them and then drying with a cloth and leaving them on our drying mat overnight to air dry thoroughly, before placing them back in the knife block. We purchased the 14-piece set and it fits very nicely on our counter, without taking up much room. I really wanted the 20-piece set so that we would have 8 steak knives, instead of just the 6. However, after reading the reviews of how big the block was on the larger set, and me not being able to find the dimensions of the block anywhere, I opted for the smaller 14-piece set. All the knives state they were made in India, and the shears and black wood block was made in China. This is truly a beautiful set. We have been delighted at how sharp these knives are and highly recommend this set! (Just a side note, the box states there is a “prep knife,” but on the wood block it states it as a “utility” knife.)

So first off, yes, they are made in China. Henckles are made in China and Spain to help cut production costs, these aren't the higher end Zwilling knives made in Solingen, Germany, but they are quality. Great carbon steel knives that work well for the home cook. I love the sharpness right out of the box, it makes it great for slicing and cutting whatever you need to. The block in my opinion is a little big, but I do have a large kitchen so counterspace is a luxury I have. In a smaller kitchen I would try to find a way to place them to maximize my space. One of my biggest complaints is they don't hold an edge as long as expected. I was expecting the edge to last longer. The built in sharpener works okay at best, so I would recommend getting an actual sharpener. I picked up a simple Henckles one and it works fine. Overall, it is a great value for the price, and would be great for the home cook. The handles feel great, good weight, and cuts well.

I purchased this because I find the Henckels brand to be outstanding and the biggest selling point for me was the self-sharpening feature. While there are a lot of other brands out there to choose from, I always prefer this brand and always find them to be superior. I wanted to upgrade my knives and had a really tough time deciding on whether to go with the 20 piece or the smaller set. I ultimately decided on the 20 piece since I do a lot of cutting when I start canning and a really good set of knives is a must. Decided not to go by price but by what I would need. I am so glad I did, they came the next day and I cut up chicken and beef to put in the freezer and it was a breeze. They are so sharp it has been like cutting meat with a butter knife! Will definitely have to be extra careful! The block is huge compared to my old set and I had to move things around on the counter to accommodate it. The knives and the block have a sleek appearance and the knives are easy to hold and cut with. Would definitely recommend purchasing! I did warn my husband that he is NOT allowed to use the new knives for anything other than food related preparation! Contrary to his belief, they are NOT tools! lol

We’ve been using the knife set we got from Chicago Cutlery as a wedding gift for the last 22 years. We made a decision together that we were just going to wash them in the dishwasher for the sake of ease. For the last 7 years we have had several of the wooden handles held in place with rubber bands to keep the knives functional, and I have to sharpen them soooooo often. We finally decided to get some new knives so I ordered some fine Damascus steel ones from Amazon which turned out to be some cheap knives with a Damascus-like etching on them. I returned them and my wife said we needed to go to a nice store like Sur La Tab so she could really examine the knives before we got them. Then Covid hit. So we replaced the rubber bands and kept using the old wooden handled Chicago Cutlery set we had been dishwashing. I finally got fed up and ordered these. Luckily we have a good idea of which knives we like now, so I didn’t get the one with all the pieces we didn’t need. We have one expensive Henckels knife that is very heavy. We don’t use it because it is so heavy. These have a good heft, but are not so heavy we won’t use them. One reviewer commented that the difference in heft indicates that these are not made in Germany, but I prefer the balance of these. I haven’t had them for long but they seem like a really nice set. One might think that anything would be better than the broken ones we’ve been using, but remember, I returned those crappy “Damascus” ones. I recommend these. If that changes I’ll revise the review. Now all I have to do is convince my wife not to wash these in the dishwasher….
