  • Really nice guitar! Buy one today! :) Really nice guitar! Buy one today! :)
I wanted a nice but inexpensive guitar to upgrade with some parts I'd accumulated. After reading great reviews on this one, I decided to give it a try. It is a beautiful guitar. Neck is nice, fretwork is very good, and overall fit and finish are decent. There is a spot on the fretboard, at the very last fret on the treble side, where they have obviously filled in a portion of the wood with some type of filler, but it is barely noticeable and doesn't affect playability at all, which is great on this thing. The bridge volume knob was slightly damaged and there was some sticky residue that needed removed from the lower bout on the edge and back of the guitar. Overall, I am quite pleased with it and am having it upgraded with new electronics (CTS pots, orange drop caps, treble bleeds), Seymour Duncan 59 pickups (stock ones sounded so-so, especially the neck), a graph tech tusq nut (stock one was cut well but is plastic), and Grover tuners (stock ones are decent but I had a set of Grovers on hand). It will be a great guitar when I'm done! But please take any comparisons of this guitar to a Gibson with a grain of salt. I have several Gibson Les Pauls, and they are much better guitars than this on every level. For the money, this is a great value and with some upgrades, can be a great player. *** UPDATE *** The upgrades mentioned in my original review were performed by a professional tech and the results are stellar! I have upgraded this to a 5 star review. This guitar is absolutely amazing now! Plays as well and sounds as good as just about any other guitar in my collection, and I have quite a few Gibsons, Eastmans, PRS, Heritage, etc. In fact, I bought an IYV ILS-350 last week, and it's just as nice as this one or even better. It will be getting some upgrades this week (Gotoh tuners, bone nut, CTS pots, orange drop caps, treble bleeds, and Tonerider pickups) and will be an equally fantastic guitar when it's done. I've been playing it quite a bit as is, it's that good out of the box. I really think IYV make some of, if not the best, budget guitars out there. Firefly might be a bit better, but not by much. They also cost a bit more, too. ***** These are so nice, I bought 2! One for me, and one to give as a gift. Both have been modified with upgraded tuners and electronics, but they are very decent out of the box. ... show more

  • Awesome Guitar for the Money!
These went out of stock for about a year, so I am calling these Second Generation IYV guitars. This is really a Chibson that doesn't say Gibson. It is my 5th IYV now. I Love them that much. I bought a 2nd generation back in November and the headstock was beautiful, but the fretboard and inlays were not the same quality as my first three. But it was such a great guitar otherwise, I ordered this Les Paul copy. And the neck was as expected. My first three IYV guitars were just stunning, I like them Better than any Gibson, Fender or PRS I ever owned. And I have been playing professionally since 1970. This was the First IYV that was playable out of the box. I spent 6 hours setting up my last one, and while the quality is a notch down from the 1st Gen guitars, for the money, $146.75, these guitars are the Best Bang per Buck there is. I have NO complaints about this guitar, pickups sound Great, the tuners stay in tune, the finish while a notch down from before, is still very good. I LOVE the necks on all these guitars. While the frets aren't my favorites, they are good. This is still a Pro instrument that I will be playing live as often as I can. If you got a 1st Gen IYV, hang onto it. I replaced the pickup rings and pickguard and after new strings and a setup, I can probably turn around and sell it easily for $250. Can't say that with any other guitar. I think people are still afraid, Don't be Afraid. I play my IYV guitars every day and Love them more and more. All the hardware is solid. It is still a Beautiful guitar. The plastic covers on the back are black, I ordered a set of black ones just in case, with these guitars you kinda never know for sure about little things. Buy these while you can! My experience is, they will eventually go way UP in price, or go out of business. But these are IDENTICAL to every Chibson I have ever seen. And I have seen some Chibsons I could not believe were fakes. Same as the 1st Gen IYVs. My first two are BETTER than any Gibson I ever owned. While not the same, I have No Regrets about buying another guitar I Do Not Need, but for $146.75 I just couldn't resist. The tone of all of these guitars is Amazing. This was one of the quickest setups I ever did. Out of the box the first four were NOT playable, but this is how you want them. This guitar is 100% playable out of the box, so somebody put in some time putting it together. I have owned and played Everything and IYV guitars Smoke everything out there, especially when you take the price into consideration. ... show more

  • IYV 6 String Solid-Body Electric Guitar, Right, Sunburst (ILS-340 SB) IYV 6 String Solid-Body Electric Guitar, Right, Sunburst (ILS-340 SB)
Hello everyone. First of all, let us get this out of the way. When someone purchases a guitar (whether it is used, refurbished, displayed model, with minor imperfection, or a new one) at some point you are going to set the action, set the intonation, treat the fret board, file the fret ends, replace/modify the knobs/switches/bridge/strings/pickups/neck/etc. to your preference. It is no difference when you buy your vehicle. Eventually, you are going to change/add/replace/modify items on your vehicle to your liking. And that is fine. With that said, please do not count these components as a negative criticism towards these guitars. Let us just focus on the guitar itself. With minor tuning and neck adjustments, these guitars are ready to play right out of the box. As you know, minor tuning and neck adjustments are common with any guitar you purchase. The finish, quality, and construction of these guitars are awesome. The headstock is eye-catching. The neck is straight. The frets do not have dents/divots and are smooth (no sharp edges). The fret board is fine. The body is beautiful. The joints/seems are connected to satisfactory. The hardware (pickup selector or switch/output or input jack/volume & tone knobs or controls/bridge/pickups/pick guard/tuners/electronics/screws/nuts/strap buttons/fret or inlay markers/fret nut) are nice, functional, and tight. There may be some small blemishes or cloudy finishes here and there, fret board might have some kind of dye on it, but nothing really significant that would cause you NOT to play the guitar immediately. I’ve made NO modifications or changed any components on this guitar and had no major issue with feedback noise, guitar getting out of tune from hours of play, components getting loose or not working, breaking strings, electrical issues, etc. Again, everyone has their option on what they consider feedback, guitar out of tune, components getting loose or not working, breaking strings, electrical issues, etc. And that is okay. It also varies on the equipment (amps/stacks/pedals/cables/etc.) you use and how you play these guitars. In conclusion, these guitars are attractive, feel great, look fabulous, sound terrific, entice you to play them and definitely fun to play. I am sold, and I am a HUGE fan of the IYV Guitars! I wished I could have purchased the earlier models when they first came out. If I had the money, I would buy all the IYV models. For an electric guitar under $200.00 and with no shipping fees, these guitars are an excellent investment! I will say it again. Not only are these guitars gorgeous, but they are also a pleasure to play. I hope IYV will continue to produce new models or have older models available because I am excited in purchasing them in the future. Thank you IYV Guitar company/staff for producing this magnificent product! ... show more

  • Really great guitar!! Really great guitar!!
I was interested in learning guitar but really don’t want to spend a ton on one since I don’t have a ton of spare time, so wasn’t sure if the urge would last. For the price I was pretty skeptical, but to be honest this feels rock solid and plays great! I got a small practice amp, and have been having a great time with it. The finish on the guitar looks Really nice, and the fretboard looks like an expensive guitar to me (especially compared to some of the others I looked at in the same range or used). The strings it comes with are easy on the fingers as well, and the pickups with the dual tone and volume knobs help you tune it to sound how you want. Overall, I can speak as a beginner, this was worth every penny and I’d definitely recommend it! Shocked how nice it was ... show more

  • Hot and miss!
Had some QC problems again. This is guitar number 2. The triple switch knob was broken and laying in the box and a serious paint drip in the neck close to the headstock. Kept it and took a discount.

  • Great bang for the buck
Overall a very nice guitar. Looks good, sounds good and plays well. I had two issues though. The volume pot on the neck pickup was bad and the tailpiece cut through the high E string. So I had to do a little soldering and order up a Gotoh tailpiece. Tuners hold, one was a little sticky but I always change out to lockers anyway so no big deal. Nut cut well. Paint job is excellent. Bridge pickup is excellent. Neck pickup is adequate. Great bar banger axe for sure and easy on the back :) ... show more

  • quality iyv guitar.
Bought the iyv les paul style guitar and was not really sure what i might get as it seems to be a hit or miss in quality sometimes on these affordable guitars. this is my second iyv guitar and the last one i bought is a hollow body thinline telecaster a couple of years back and took quite a bit of work on my part as far as leveling the frets and adjusting the neck truss rod to get it playable. the quality control on this model is great and playable right out of the box with only some tuning of the strings and the string height action is set lower and spot on for me. when i checked neck with my straight edge it did have a slight bow at the lower end of neck but the frets were all level and no fretting out while playing. i did adjust the truss rod for a straight neck but that made the guitar unplayable without fret buzzing so i just adjusted it back like it was before and it plays great. there is a lot to be said about neck relief on a les paul style guitar. great finish on the body other than a couple of minor tiny finish flaws that don't stand out. ... show more

  • All round great guitar.
Collected today very pleased. Neck is straight, no sanding needed on frets. Haven't used my fret tool yet to check height but guitar plays without buzzing. String heights at nut nice and low, just a couple of bass strings need to be lowered. Guitar was not intonated and bass strings need string carriage reversing to get intonation spot on, a small job. Electrics good and pickups have good tones but I may change them in the future to something more fitting of the guitar build quality. Paint job is excellent, on both the body and guitar neck. Looking really hard I only found a couple of miniscule blemishes. This guitar needs only a little set up and will be great. At twice the price it would still be worth every penny. ... show more
