  • A Really Great Guitar
If you are looking for a quality SG knock-off, I recommend this IYV (Vietnam) instrument. Finish and workmanship excellent, a string change and pickup height were the only adjustments. Covers a wide variety of excellent tones. I am using this for performance now and using this one guitar, rather than switching between LP, Strat and Tele. The Maestro-style trem system was the big selling point for me for this model, and it works the way I want it to. Tuning is stable. Love it. ... show more

  • What's not to love?
I loved the looks of this guitar when I first laid eyes on it. I have bought many IYV guitars over the past several years, and still don't know how the build such a high-quality guitar for such an inexpensive price. I was hoping this sg style IYV was not just a pretty face and boy was I pleasantly surprised?! As an old guy who has played for over 55 years, I also owned over seventy all high-end Gibson, Gretsch, Martin etc. and just sold two Gibson es-295's from the early fifties... I now am in love with this Golden age of inexpensive guitars. I have played them all, and although several will always be my favorites, I am still more than happy when I receive a new budget guitar. In a way they make me even more happy than the high-end guitars I owned. I would recommend this guitar to anyone who isn't a guitar snob who wants to always compare them to their five grand Gibsons etc... nothing will ever convince those guys. So take it from an old man. Buy you one of these as fast as possible before they go missing. Seriously. Do it now! ;-) ... show more

  • Hit or miss?
Absolutely great guitar. Bought planning to mod it...just gonna leave it as is. Mine had a little paint chipped where the neck and body join, but otherwise perfect guitar. Can't say the same with the iyv lp.jr i bought after this....unplayable warped neck, light cheap wood, and truss rod non functional. Seems QC is hit or miss with this company. ... show more

  • So Sweet :)
Only recently even aware of SG style guitars, and not drawn by their images, but having good luck with IYV guitars, so took a chance, I am kinda shocked looking at this thing: it is beautiful…and comfortable, with a nice bevel below the right elbow. This copy seems perfect except for one pit on the bottom (see pic). Not a sharp fret. Action is not far off, will need slight cut at the nut and maybe a turn on the bass side on the bridge…which looks good BTW. Trem seems great. Pickups..bridge is quite hot, but the blend is sweet, honestly. All my IYV pickups are different, and some I didn’t like much at first…but now I find the secret spots and revise my opinion. The $6-800 guitar pickups do sound better in general..but IVY flavors are mostly usable, and some more than that. The red paint job…like a Bordeaux :) That cosmetic flaw, the little pit, I take as a mark of character, to make me feel less guilty to own such a gorgeous thing for so little geld. Thank you IYV! ... show more

  • Good workmanship and build.
So far this Vietnamese version of an SG is without any flaws. Neck is straight and well tuned. Frets are smooth and even. It even arrived one note lower than EADGBE standard tuning and holding fast. Fit and finish are great. I am very impressed.

  • not what I expected.
Mine came with the following problems. Clear film missing off bridge pickup, and clear film jammed off truss rod into nut and strings. Strum marks on the film on pickguard, and some pickguard film peeled off. Terrible crack at neck joint, on all three sides, including finish chipped off. Neck actually moved a bit in the joint. I've wanted one of these for a while, but it appears that after two successful IYV's, I finally got a total dud. Recommend thinking if you want to take the chance on this design. • Looks fabulous!
Beautiful guitar! Incredible price. Received in perfect condition. The tremolo bar interferes with the knob and switch, but I can take it off and bend it up, no big deal.

  • Know what you are buying
I waited three months after ordering to receive this guitar, and was quite dismayed at the condition of the instrument which finally arrived. First of all, Amazon shipped this without any external protection whatsoever. It arrived in the slim, soft cardboard factory guitar box, with little to no padding to protect the guitar. I'm not going to lie, the overall heft and finish and playability of the guitar is very impressive at this price, and own two original Gibson SG Standards from 2016 & 2017 to compare it to. I found the frets and feet ends to be smooth and the neck and fretboard looked good. The hardware on mine shows care in installation and the guitar appears to keep tune. I found the guitar to be resonant and to play far better than your typical import. With that said, QC seems abysmal on these guitars, or at least this was the case on mine. Check out the photos. These are only some of the flaws I found. Horribly cracked neck binding. Glue stuck to the finish. Various little paint flaws and dings in the body, and severe finish checking at the neck pocket. One of the fretboard inlays and part of the binding around the are with the crack was also stained pink by the paint used on the guitar, and doesn't match the rest of the inlays. I don't know if this could clean off with lemon oil or naptha but I'll likely give it a try. Overall, if you go into this with a clear idea of what you're getting (not a Gibson) for the price, this could be an amazing guitar for someone like me who doesn't want to wear the crap out of the frets on their two thousand dollar SGs yet needs a quality guitar for everyday practice that looks and almost feels like the real thing. If you're super picky and expect perfection, you're going to be disappointed. I don't know how all the other reviewers were lucky enough to receive flawless examples, though I suspect many of these reviewers either chose to overlook these types of flaws or don't have the be easy experience to discern what is and isn't acceptable QC on a quality electric guitar. So it's up to you. You'll be waiting months to receive it though ... show more
