I'm not an airbrush expert, so I don't know all ways to thin this. I tried using Vallejo to thin, but it didn't work well. This does come with thinner but seems like you'll run out of thinner well before you exhaust all the paint here. The paint looks nice. Doesn't seem as fine as some of the other brands, so this is good if you like a meatier metallic look. Happy with how these look, but it's not super iridescent. I thought the black would be more of a dark chrome metal, but it's flatter than expected. Kind of a slightly shimmery metallic from the colors I've tested. If you need volume this is good, but if you want a super iridescent effect on an important project I'd probably look elsewhere. ... show more

    • These Are More Duochrome Paints Than Colorshift, But Decent
My son has been putting together a series of stations in his little game making hobby. He wants to make production work sometime. I got these paints as a lower cost alternative to practice with. HOW THESE COME These come in a box which is sealed and has a molded plastic tray inside that holds the bottles upright. CAPS The screw on caps are in two parts. The clear cap goes on top of the black cap which is where the paint comes through. SEAL These are sealed really well. That is a good thing since the colors might not all be needed right away. It keeps them from drying out. The seal can be tricky to get off, but if you go carefully it will come off without too much mess. MIXING I have a vortex paint mixing unit. I use that to quickly mix my paints and do not have issues with them settling badly. COLORS The paints are pretty pigmented but are semi transparent. If you really want the colors and duochrome to show, use a dark base to paint these on. Otherwise, you will see streaks and spots on a light background in spots. COLOR SHIFT These are duochrome iridescent colors. That means you will see a mild dual color look to the shimmer in most of the colors. That is not the same as a color shifting paint. Color shifting will completely change color depending on the direction. This will have more subtle variations. PERFORMANCE If using a larger air brush point, this will work fine. If you are going really fine spray, you will need to use thinner. This does not seem to work that great in the really fine tips- plan on using medium to larger sizes. The paint goes on pretty smoothly and if you work carefully, you can make it so there are no streaks or spots obviously visible. THE BOTTOM LINE This is a decent set of paints with a duochrome aspect to them. MY RATING I was going to take off a star for the description mentioning color shifting when it is really duochrome, but honestly, these are pretty nice despite that. If used carefully, you can get some pretty nice effects. Are they top of the line? No. They do, however provide excellent practice for technique or hobby level crafting. I like these and my son likes them when he wants to save his expensive iridescent paints for high end work. ... show more

My husband paints minis and dioramas that he makes and he uses an airbrush. These paints are perfect for his models and the color shifts are stunning. The paints themselves are easy to use and easy to thin for the airbrush. Even though it says "airbrush paint" you don't HAVE to use them in an airbrush. They work JUST as well as traditional paint.
