Just a basic rubber strip, about as thick as an inner tube. Seems to do fine as I haven't had any issues with my spokes poking a hole in my tube but one thing I found out is there are basically two widths of strips and you want to find out which size your rim needs in advance. That information isn't always easy to come by. If you're going to take your tire to a dealer to change it's no big deal as they will have the proper strip in stock and there isn't much of a cost difference to worry about. This irc rim strip, 16 inch is perfect for use on 16 inch rims with spokes that require tubes. It fit my particular large cruiser front motorcycle rim perfectly.
