I read reviews for hours on everything in this price range and even considered buying a t5 and an LED, but for the money, this has the highest PPFD /watt out of all three! The only lights more PAR efficient per watt are the highly expensive LEDs. For me, these are the absolute choice for yield and quality. Arrived quickly and no broken bulbs Quality of the ballast is very high! I was surprised by how sleek and QUIETLY it runs. The reflector is very thin and easy to bend. Great functionality but you can feel how thin delicate it is. The fixture hangs from very secure hooks on a frame attached to the mogul socket, so as long as you're careful when setting it up, the reflector will be fine. I am a cannabis cultivating facility manager out in Denver, CO. I have purchased this fixture as an inexpensive way to replace an older fly-wing fixture I was using in a home grow of mine. THIS LIGHT IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I dont have a PAR meter, but just by guessing through its Lumens, I would say this has an output of no more than 300 PPFD (photosynthetic photon flux density) under a mere 3' x 3' footprint!! This light is WAY WORSE than what you pay for. I wish I didn't wait so long so I could return it. The ballast MAY output 600w but the fixture itself IS NOT a full 600w output. This light doesnt even compete with ONE of my 100w T5 flourescents. DO NOT PURCHASE this sad mistake of a "Metal halide / High pressure sodium". A complete disgrace to the growing industry. ... show more

    • Loud Whine Coming from HPS Bulb

Put on my gloves(new pair of latex, have boxs DO NOT TOUCH WITH BARE HANDS) and put the MH in after everything put together. OMG BRIGHT. Have LEDS I use and this thing makes them look silly. After some reading, I seen some University had done studies it was better to just run HPS the whole time. So new gloves on, let light cool 10+ mins and removed the MH and installed the HPS. Plugged the Ballast back in and OMG BRIGHT. Next day I walk into the room and I hear this horrific whining noise coming from my tent. After unplugging everything but the light, and still hearing it coming from what sounded like the bulb(ballast is outside of tent) I unplug the light and noise goes away. Turn it back on, bam loud whine. Reinstalled the MH and no more noise. Maybe a faulty HPS bulb? The noise its making scares me to run it so just doing the MH for now. Note that you need to unplug the ballast when changing bulbs. Noticed this when I switched to the HPS bulb as it didn't ignite at first. Maybe it damaged the bulb in some way? ... show more

Is one of the worst HPS lights I've ever used as soon as we plugged it in for the first time the bulb blew up. The extra money you're paying for the hood can easily be made at home out of aluminum foil because that's exactly what it feels like when you're assembling it. You really know the quality is not there when to hold the metal hood on they use the same kind of fasteners that you use on paper. Customer support was horrible and after waiting for 2 months for this company to send me a replacement bulb I decided to send this piece of crap back. This thing is a major fire hazard don't risk your safety or the safety of your plants. ... show more

Unfortunately the Metal Halide bulb burnt out within 30 mins so I had to make a run to the local shop for a new bulb. -_- This was my first time trying one of these cheap amazon ones and I will have to say avoid it if you can if not, good luck I hope yours works perfect. Update. Theyve reached out and sent a new metal halide bulb which was nice of them but again if you can avoid these cheap lights do it. I’ve already ordered other ones from a different company. Update 5/10 Garbage that’s all I have to say, first veg bulb burnt out in 30 mins, and yes they replaced it. Any how guess what!?!? The whole light fixture burnt out at the most crucial time for my 5x5 I decided to run these lights on(week 6 day 5)......garbage lights!!!! If you’re a grower just starting out, I’d advise you save you’re money and fork out for something slightly better. That’s why I’m here, so I can test out the garbage for you. One on the left was another cheap 400w(yield lab) light from my budget grow journal and yea avoid this amazon garbage because the basic yield lab light is still running strong and no veg bulb burn out or light fixture taking a dump. ... show more

Fast delivery, even in Alaska was only 3 days! Everything you need in one package. I love the dimmer part, though it's hard to tell, you can. It just doesn't turn up and down like a regular light. Takes a few minutes for the change. The rope pulleys are a great addition. I like the horizontal light fixture, gives me some extra room from the old parabolic vertical mount style fixtures. The box arrived in excellent condition via UPS. Update: 4 months now and on the SHP bulb and growing some nice stinky! No problems with the gear. I was looking at the negative responses with ballasts burning up and melting plugs, if you aren't an electrician, you should self educate yourself or find someone to help you. I use a 20 amp branch circuit with 12 gauge wire and good receptacles, not the cheap "push the wire in" type, I mean the wire is looped and screwed tight to the receptacles. Also using too small of extension cords will cause disaster. The smaller(and or longer) the wire the bigger the volt drop, when volts drop amps go up and things start to get hot. This will kill any electronics. Be careful and don't burn down your house! UPDATE:It's been almost a year and I've grown three crops now with this light and am very happy with the results. Was hesitant to purchase given some of the reviews, but let me say this system is perfect. Wattage isn't a problem when running this thing on 24hr cycles. I've already ran this through 3 harvest, and still running solid. Only thing I suggest is getting extra bulbs when you do buy, as this ballast will definitely outlast the bulbs light quality/ output.
