  • Intimina Ziggy Cup Review
I purchased this disc (because thats actually what it really is) because it was a reusable silicone that can be boiled and sanitized (carefully) and I love the fact I'm not throwing my money away every month or adding to pollution. First off, let me say that I absolutely love, love LOVE the holder that comes with this cup/disc!! It's the silkiest pink silicone and is perfect for the disc. It also fits perfectly in my purse without being obvious. I also love the honeycomb silicone thin part of the cup because..well, it's just neat to me (what do I say?? I like this kind of little detail 🤣) the box it comes in...UGH..all i can say is cut a slit on both ends before you attempt to open it, that makes it easier. I couldn't reuse my container because it arrived with a few huge chunks broken out. But I really don't care abt that because the product arrived in fine condition. I am a very experienced cup user, very comfortable with my girly bits and "fluids" 😲 and have tried many different menstrual cups. My go to cup is always the large Super Jennie due to a very heavy period. Cups have saved my life every month..seriously, I was going through an ultra tampon in as little as 30 minutes and I basically had to live in the bathroom. I had leaks and accidents constantly and it was affecting my life every month terribly. Cups have given me back my freedom. I still have to change the Super Jennie at least every two hours on my first 3 days, but that is such an improvement for me. Now...I'm saying this next part because there may be some individuals who need this information because I honestly haven't been able to find exact detailed info online. I do have a Copper iud (Paragard), and have had it for almost a year. I am not able to have any of the hormones in the regular iud. (And I know this contributes to my heavy periods) I have went through dislodging my past iud (the one before this one) with my Super Jennie Cup because my iud strings were longer and I have a low cervix during my period. (And yes, your cervix does move up and down during and after your cycle) Long story short, dislodging can happen with any menstrual cup no matter what the internet or any company or person tells you. There are things you can do to decrease this risk. I am still using cups because this is what is right for me after extensive research, and I'm confortable and understand the dislodging risk involved, and now know how to avoid it. I explained to my very supportive ob and she basically removed/shortened the strings to where I can just barely feel them outside of my cervix and I have had no further issues with it. I was only going to give it 4 stars because of the messiness of removing a full disc (cup/whatever you wanna call it) HOWEVER...this may be contributed to user error and lack of experience with disc like "cups" so I honestly can't fault it for that because it worked perfectly for me. I will have to experiment with different ways to try and take it out. If your planning on wearing this cup when you go out, make sure you take plenty of wet wipes or feminine wipes with you. And always ALWAYS wear a thin liner. When I change this cup, as I hook my finger to try and remove it...well.....almost a crime scene...IF you bleed heavily. I can NOT for the life of me find a way to remove this cup when it's full without alot of the contents coming out all over my hand and fingers. This is disgusting, but honestly blood squirts all over my hand every single time I go to empty this cup.. but i can see how this cup would be an absolutely perfect cup for a light bleeder. Or perhaps I will mostly use this cup on my lightest days. It is a very comfortable cup and very easy to get inserted correctly. Just be prepared if you bleed heavily. Also if you are out and can't change it, and for ANY reason you strain just a small bit it WILL leak some of the contents out. (although most cups do) So make sure you empty it out in time and never wait. I would never wear this cup without a liner or leak proof pad (cloth preferably) I also suggest if you wear it when you go out anywhere, and have to use a public restroom, don't take it out completely (unless you wanna use a ton of wet wipes) just sit over the toilet and remove it just enough to empty it out just a bit, then push it back in. When I tried to remove it completely it was so messy it was just difficult, and this is the best way I found to do it with the least mess. If you are someone who wants to measure the amt of flow with your cup, then this may not be the cup/disc for you, as I'm unsure as to how you would be able to do that with this cup. The best tips I can give you for this disc is to always make sure you put a small bit of lube on the end before inserting to make sure you get it inside all the way back and also, once you have it inside far enough (where it will not move any farther back) take your finger and push the end up and behind your pelvic bone. Otherwise, it will definitely slide out and you will have a mess of leaks. With this cup/disc on my heaviest days and moving around at a good pace around the house doing chores, I am able to go for at least 3 to 4 hours without emptying it out and no leaking or very little leaking, only because of what is on the outside of the cup when I insert it already. I'm aware this is a long review but This is my honest opinion and I bought this cup completely on my own without any solicitation from intimina whatsoever. (They don't even know I exist...honestly) I highly recommend it and suggest you give it a try. It goes into my "goldilocks cup collection" (there is only one so far and it's the large Super Jennie) it can be difficult to find the perfect cup because everyone is different with what works for them. I encourage you to try until you find what works for you because when you find the perfect cup/s you will know and it's fantastic when you do. 😉 Update as of October 2018: so, I've had this disc for a little over 7 months now. I continued having issues with it leaking every cycle. I had pretty much chalked it up to my own user error, and was correct. I found out (by reading another very helpful review) that I've been inserting this disc the wrong way!! With the shallow end towards the front. After I figured it out and tried it the right way, I no longer have the leaking issue as much. It does leak occasionally if I forget to empty it in time, or something happens and I dislodge it accidentally (you can push too hard and dislodge it from behind your pelvic bone pretty easily, for me it's taken some practice to know how that feels when it happens because once it's in correctly I can't feel it anymore) yes, I have ruined more than a few pairs of undies with this nice little learning curve. And I always have some spotting when I go pee, but that's kinda the norm for this territory. I can handle it. Overall I still like this cup and would still give it 4 stars. My disc has held up really well so far. I still haven't found a way to avoid the bloodbath for my hand and most of my fingers while removing a completely full cup, but I don't have as much of an issue if I just pull it out a bit and empty some of the contents out instead of removing the cup completely every time I go to the restroom. I haven't tried it while having "intimate moments" either because...well, I'm just honestly not as brave as you other gals out there 😁 but I'll definitely take your word for it on that one. Mainly..this cup DOES have a steep learning curve. You MUST be comfortable with your body, on the inside (to know what's going on with the cup once it's inserted) as well as sometimes being very resourceful in weird situations to use this. If your like me your determined to get your 40$ worth and try to make it work. Just dont let the learning curve disuade you from trying at all. It's taken me months to get the hang of it..and yes, I have those days i just wanted to trash it...and nothing worked right..and I tried the next day and it got a little better...everyone's body is different and just because this may not work for you, it doesn't mean some other cup won't either. Eventually it worked for me, so I'm still very happy with it. ... show more

  • IN DEPTH REVIEW WITH SOME TIPS TO MAKE IT WORK-THIS CUP WORKED FOR ME
First of all, I see alot of reviews that say the insertion end is too thick to go in. Trust me, you take bigger things than that it will fit. Secondly, the packagins is recyclable. Im not sure if that a new thing for them, but there is a recyclable marker on the very bottom of the plastic thing. Anways, I started to use soft cups becuase I am on birth control that would extend my periods sometimes and those worked great for me, minus some instances with some leakage here and there. I wanted something reusable because I ended up having a cycle for nearly a month at one point and didn't like the fact that I was throwing them away every 12 hours for weeks on end. Originally when I saw reviews and youtube videos for the ziggy cup they were all negative but I like to try things myself before I take the opinion of someone else. As far as my cervix goes, It seems as if it is pretty low depending on where she wants to be when I've checked. But one thing I want to say is that the way you insert this matters to how it is going to stay in place and I don't think the company gives great instructions on how to do that which is their fault for a crappy instruction book that gives you like a few sentences on top of what look like other instructions for their other products.. I watched a youtuber named itsjustkelli who did a review on this and the nixit cup. She gave some tips on her nixit review that I applied to this cup and it actually made this work for me. For insertion, the thicker end does go in first (i tried to sqeeze it into a rounder shape for the first time just to make it go in easier for me, i dont think it mattered though), and I realized the reason for this is for it to position itself once you get off the toilet, which is where I would recoomend putting this in every time. You want to insert it with your thumb on the right side and your index finger on its left side sqeezing it into an eight, you may have to run some water on it if you're dry down there and may have to use your other hand to open yourself up a bit, but you can also use your middle finger with this position to push it in further. If you don't get it in all the way and its sticking out just a bit, that is completely fine becuase you can honestly still get it in. If you make sure that its not turned more left or right and that the thinner end is sticking out straight, you can sit yourself up a bit, (or give yourself a mini frustration break from doing this for the first time lol) and then push it downward , if you have longer nails like me, you have to kind of push your nail in between the slit in the cup and use your finger to push it up on your pelvic bone or just use a combo of your nail and finger. Don't let it squish in your vagina (if that makes sense) because then it will try to come out because it's inserted incorrectly. When you first feel like you get it in you can sit up straight and lean forward to push down on your stomach and stand up to see if you feel it (this is how you can tell if it's going to stick out or come out) If you can feel it, don't pull it back out. Just push it more downward, or pull it out just enough to readjust it so that it is going straight and downward. STRAIGHT AND DOWNWARD IS IMPORANT. If you're curious like I was once I got it in and didn't feel it, you can stand up (depending on how comfy you are about your lady friend) you can stick your finger in and see if you can feel it once you stand up, at this point if you do and its inside of you, you can stand in an awkward position with your legs spread out and push it down again and up you pelvic bone and should be good if it absolutely gets to that point, but don't check it randomly too often because when I first put it in, i woud check it too often and ended up scratching myself when it was just chilling up there. With that being said, I experienced no leakeage. I would suggest the use of baby wipes, sometimes when I wiped and I was full, it was on the rim of the cup, and would get on my nail, so wipe before you take it out. If you see alot of blood and no leakage you need to empty the cup. With this being said, you DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE IT ALL THE WAY OUT TO EMPTY IT. I learned a trick. With the softcups, when you pee it tries to empty itself.. this cup doesn't because it really tries to stay in place. So for emptying (this was the part I got from the youtuber) put you finger under the rim of the cup as if you are trying to pull it out, but pull it up and pull it out just enough to where it is still inside you and where you can easily push it back in, and with the top end is sticking out, sit back on the toilet and lean your body forward and it will dump out your blood without a mess, after this, wipe the top and bottom rim of the cup to clean off the blood and push it downward and back up on your pelvic bone. If you're having a heavier period like I had the first few days with this, mind you I wasn't as active for a few days with it, but I emptied it at least every 2-3 hours cause I was HEAVY. There was a few days on one of my lighter days where I wasn't as irritated on my period and went for a 2 mile run and also experienced no leaking, mind you I did attempt to empty it before and there wasn't much blood. So I would definitely recommend trying to empty at least every other time you go to the bathroom. Either way, you might want to check the cup everytime you go, especially if youre pooping becuase you press on your pelvic bone which does tend to push this out some. ALSO WITH THAT, IF YOU THINK THIS IS STUCK IN YOU, JUST PRESS YOUR STOMACH LIKE YOU'RE PASSING A MOVEMENT OR TRYING TO PUSH SOMETHING OUT LIKE YOU WOULD A BABY AND ITLL POP OUT ENOUGH TO WHERE YOU CAN PULL IT OUT. there is absolutely no reason anyone should have to go to the emergency room to get this out and I don't even understand how that was even an issue for anyone. ALSO, I tried to keep up with the 12 hour marks but at one point I would forget it was even there. Boil it for 5 minutes before the first use, and use warm water and hand soap to clean it out at least at the end of the day before bed and in the morning before you start your day. It does become easier to get it in as you get use to the routine of using a cup. Unlike the softcup, this one is a little bit oval shaped like an egg but for me, I think it made it fit better and made me experience no leakage. Other than that, this and the softcup are about the same size. Overall, I was presently surprised with this consdering the mixed reviews, I havent tried the mess free period sex with it, but I love the fact that I don't have a string or pointy thing to pull this out, which is why I liked the soft cups and not the other cups on the market like the diva and lilly cup. It is really comfy and I would defnitely recommend. I'm pretty sure the mess free period sex claim is true because of the position it will take on you, and the silicone feels better than the plastic would on the softcup. Hope my tips and review help! ... show more
