I was really curious about tteokbokki, but also a bit hesitant since I’m the biggest baby ever about spicy food. This flavor is 100% non-spicy, and is a great introduction to the dish if you want to try tteokbokki but can’t handle the heat of the regular version. I cooked it in a small saucepan, and it was ready in about 10mins start to finish. DELICIOUS! The creamy onion sauce is perfect, if a bit on the sweet side. The rice cakes had a fun, soft-chewy texture & were very easy to eat. The only drawback is the price; you do get 2 packs, but it still works out to about $6 per serving. The portion size is fairly small, too, much to my leftover-loving self’s disappointment. Still, a great occasional treat! ... show more

the onion butter flavor of this is stellar esp if you don’t have a huge palate for spicy food. it’s a little sweet, but it’s also savory and the combination of flavors is so good. cook the sauce down til it’s pretty thick and coats the rice cakes well, it’s way better this way that leaving it thin and soupy. 10/10 for a quick lunch that takes little effort. ... show more

This flavor is a bit sweeter than I'd like, but it's so good! It doesn't really taste like onion to me, but it goes well with various meats and veggies. The sauce thickens perfectly and even if you add more water, it still remains flavorful. This brand gives a good portion for the price, and the tteokbokki are yummy and fragrant. I had never had tteokbokki before and was worried to try a spicy one in case it was too spicy so I bought this onion butter one. Well I'll say that it is not spicy but it is VERY sweet. Like, too sweet. The package was larger than I thought it would be, and it comes with two. I liked the idea of this and the rice cakes were nice and chewy. I used to get tkkeobokki from a local Korean restaurant but recently moved to an area without any restaurants that serve it. The onion flavor is different from what I'm used to, but soooo good!! It has that mixture of sweet and savory flavors that I love, and the rice cakes are even a similar chewy texture to the kind you get from a restaurant. One package is about the same portion size as a standard can of soup or spaghettios, which is more than enough for one serving for me.
