The V-groove bit I have from this set works just fine, comparable to my more expensive insert bits. It does a decent job of leaving a clean groove, the insert is respectably sharp, and it is well balanced with very little vibration. I've only got a couple hours of use on it so far, so I can't speak to the longevity of the bit, but the initial impression is positive. I'll update this down the road as I start to wear it and have to index the cutter.     • How very strange! One normal, one backwards cutting edge.
Size: 90°V-Groove, 1/4 Shank
This 90 degree V cutter is the strangest cutting bit I've ever seen. Most insert bits, of any shape, have a carbide or steel insert that cuts into the stock by presenting a scraping edge at high speed. That is, the leading edge of the cutter is perfectly radial and the backside is sloped away. That is, a zero degree rake angle with a large relief angle. And on one side of this bit, that is the case. But since the same insert is used on both sides of the bit, the non-zero rake angle is actually a large negative rake angle. With a 90 degree relief angle. Anyone that's ever put a table saw blade on backwards knows that bad things can happen, both to the stock and to the cutting edge. This could be used to cut aluminum and the insert might not shatter. But anything that doesn't conduct heat well is going to start to smoke very fast if you're lucky. If you hit anything hard, like a bit of grit or the like, that 90 degree relief angle isn't going to keep the carbide from chipping out badly. ... show more

If you are making signs or engraving text a 90-degree V-groove carbide insert router bit is an essential item to have in your toolkit. PROMSA’s router bit fits the bill nicely. It has a 1/4-inch shank that provides good rigidity on small CNC machines, and an 11/16-inch cut diameter (i.e., max depth ~1/3-inch or 8.5mm). Since it uses inserts for the cutting edge, the cutter itself most likely will be a one-time buy. The bit can be used in either wood or soft metal like aluminum. I have included a photo of a test engraving made in aluminum. It came out very well. The bit uses a 12mm square carbide insert that is 1.5mm thick. Replacement inserts are available on Amazon.
