I love backpacking but after some painful blisters on both of my 4th toes, a friend suggested these socks. I used them last week when backpacking Olympic National Park and was blister-free! They dried quickly in the damp and moist environment of the Olympic Range. I ordered both a M and L for my feet. I hover around a men's 10.5-11 and the Mediums were a perfect fit. These socks got a 4 star review because I wish they came in a crew cut that would go above an ankle boot like my Merrill Moabs. The Olympics were a wet environment to hike in and when worn with trail gaiters a longer sock would have been appreciated. If injinji made these in a crew cut, I would buy several pairs for years to come. But they seem to really be catering to a niche trail running market and could really benifit from expanding into the backpacking market.

I usually only buy socks with merino wool in them now. Smartwool is a favorite brand, also like Darn Tough Vermont. After a 50mile ultra, I got some blistering (mostly from the shoe I suspect, not socks), but I wanted to experiment with other socks. The ultra community seems to be embracing injinji, so I tried these. They feel funky, in a good way. they look funky on your feet. But simply put. They do what they are supposed to do, and they do it very well. Pros: - the (just) over the ankle height is easy enough to get on/off. Unlike the full length compression socks, where simply take much longer to put on/take off - seem very durable. maybe because its thicker blend. But some other "lighter" injinji socks are wearing through the big toe much much to quick. Not these - comfortable - while merino wool is the BOMB, anti-odor, warm in cold temps, cool in warm temps. Its like magic material. These socks do pretty well. Even though nasty creek crossing they hold it together. They can get ripe depending on what you run through through Cons: - [7/25/17 Update] recently, I've been having issues with the trail socks. I dropped my review to 4/5 stars. I've had durability issues on the big toes with the last 4 pair I bought. I keep my nails extremely short and filed down to avoid excess friction. but I has one pair blow out in the first 18miles of an tough ultra. Send them back for refund. Maybe quality is suspect now? - they really should reinforce the toes, and then these would almost perfect good socks are not free, and are worth their weight in gold. These are amongst my tops selections. Would I buy these again. ABSOLUTELY.
