I had full intentions of building something like this myself with pieces from the home improvement store. However, that would have been easily double the cost in materials, not to mention the time to make it all work together. This really couldn't be more easy to assemble. The pipes in the kit aren't 100% same as what you'd buy for plumbing, but they're still metal and sturdy. Just a bit thinner to keep the weight down. The boards have a textured grain finish with stain on one side, but are smooth on the bottom. There's no reason you couldn't do a light sand and then finish with your own stain or paint if you'd prefer. My biggest beef is with the hardware included. The plastic wall anchors have given me issues in the past so I personally upgraded these myself and feel better about the security. You could probably get away without that as you still have 16 screw points against the vertical wall you're mounting to. That's just my preference in case a kid tries to climb it like a ladder. Overall happy with this product.

Great shelf unit, lots of capacity and looks great with my garage decor vibe. I bought it based on the 47” width stated in the description. The shelves are 47”. The hardware extends out from there 2” on each side, making it 51”. My wall is 50-1/2”. So the hardware (round metal part at top, middle and bottom) sticks out 1/4” on each side. Not great, but doable. Just be aware.

Overall this is a great bookcase. The planks are real wood, the pipes are real metal, and putting it together was almost laughably easy. You probably do need two people when attaching it to the wall, but I was able to screw all the pipes and shelves together on my own. There were however a few (very small) issues I'd like to point out; for instance the wood isn't nearly as dark and rich as it looks in the picture, so I'd keep that in mind before ordering. It's more of a medium, dull brown on one side, and the polished side is more yellowy in tone and the wood grain is highlighted in white. The shelves can be attached either way though, so you have two options to consider when setting it up. The other issue concerns the supplies sent with the bookcase to screw into the wall. The wall anchors are pretty cheap to be honest, they work perfectly fine if you have a stud to drill into, but when used on plain dry wall the screws push them all the way and they get lost inside your wall. I'd seriously recommend buying good quality achors instead of using what they send you. Those are the only complaints I could think to mention, other than that this was a wonderful purchase, I love how it looks and I can tell that its a very sturdy piece :)

This bookshelf was just what we were looking for, in terms of size, look, and design, BUT the color of the shelves was light wood/white washed, not the dark color as advertised. I tried to find one with dark wood, but couldn't find what I wanted, so I sanded down the shelves and restained them. I hate doing extra work for a brand new item, but otherwise it met our needs.

Putting the shelf together was simple and it looks nice. The shelf is not super study though. Word of advice, DO NOT use the drywall anchors that come with the shelf; buy your own. The instructions say to use a 5/16 drill bit and the included anchors. The anchors are terrible; the 5/16 bit was too big and the anchors went right through the wall when we tried to put the screws in. It was a huge frustration to put eight holes in the wall that we then had to patch up and repaint over because the included materials are terrible. Luckily a couple of the screws line up with the studs so it's fairly sturdy, but use our own anchors.

Surprised how good the quality was for the price. Metal is real metal and wood seems to be real wood. Pretty much twist on and off each section to put together. No question it is a very sturdy piece of furniture. Bought it over other bookshelves because the reviews said it was solid … and indeed it did turn out to be very solid. I’m very pleased and would recommend. Now I just need some things to fill the shelves.

I only needed 2 but bought a 3rd since I wanted a taller floor to ceiling bookcase. I'm glad I did since 2 of the pipes had a loose thread but we had extra parts from the 3rd. I also liked the rough side of the wood more than the finished side. Everyone says how beautiful it is. Used it in my office but now I'm thinking of making it a feature wall in my living room.
