  • Great Bass
I'm a guitarist first and a bassist only out of curiosity. I also really like Ibanez: I like the feel and the look and the sound is superb for the value. So clearly I was only interested in an Ibanez bass guitar. I also didn't want a beginner bass, and wasn't good enough to justify a professional upper model bass. So this model was perfect. It feels really good in the hands. The neck is slender and easy to get around. I've played a 4 string bass once before for a few minutes, so aside from that I jumped straight into a 6 string bass. I have an 8 string guitar and love the extra range and wanted the same on bass. I haven't regretted that decision, and in fact know I would have regretted NOT getting the 6 string. I don't feel it to be cumbersome reaching across all the strings to get to that low 6th, and I can't imagine playing bass without that high 1st string. The sound is fantastic. It's got a good high and a deep, rumbling low. There's a lot of fret buzz on the low 6th string; still working that out. The active pickups work wonderfully for better equalization. (Not going to comment much on pickups, though, I prefer playing my guitars unplugged, so don't know a lot about pickups). All in all a great instrument. Well worth the money. Highly recommended. Of note: the instrument came with a small crack in the body around one of the volume knobs. It doesn't affect the instrument sound or playing. It was likely either a manufacture defect or damage due to shipping. I did not return the instrument; honestly, I wanted to play it more than I wanted a pristine instrument, and the crack is so small I hardly know it's there. ... show more

  • Excellent value - Great instrument @ low cost
Excellent value - Great instrument @ low cost! I haven't really got the chance to run this baby through it's paces but, so far I'm really impressed. A little disclaimer. I'm a very experience bassist, who has been out of it for well over a decade. So, anyway, I've been out of the loop. Looking for an instrument can be somewhat confusing. So many similar products w/ same names & numbers, but different sources of mfgr. Looking around, I see that the sources seem to be trendy. For a while, everyone was doing their imports from Japan, then Korea, China, Indonesia, etc. (not necessarily in that order) This model here is made in Indonesia. It seems that w/ Ibanez, their tier system was low number = low line & high number = high line, so 100 would be low line & 2800 would be high, etc. Seems though, that over the years, w/ different outsourcing some of the lower numbers are regarded as better than the higher ones, so a 400 from one year & source could be better than a 700 from another, etc. So, that leads us here to this, a 300 series from Indonesia, albiet a 306 (6 string). My thoughts were, well, it's cheap, if it's that bad, I'll demand a refund. I had heard things, over the years, about cheap 5 stringers having a flubby B string, where it wasn't very articulate. I was reading in other designs, when doing my research that some consider 35" scale to be more ideal for the low B. (this bass is 34") So, it would seem that this is maybe a not so well designed budget bass. I open the box (Ibanez original packaging box) & pull her out. Everything seems to be in good order & now, I have to wait for the case. I ordered the matching case from another vendor, because nobody seems to have both the bass & the case - my one complaint! Anyway, so, I decide to tune it up - my cheapie Snark tuned it up no problem, even the B. I thumbed around on it for about ½ hour & put it somewhere safe, until the case comes the next day. So far, I have run it through my Ampeg SVP Pro, into my recording computer. I took it to my buddy's to jam w/ him & he has a Hartke System, & I put a few hours on it. Today, I hooked it up through my Ampeg, into a SWR 350 & Avatar 15/4 cab. All systems were easy to dial in some good tones. The low B is nice & tight & gets a deep growling tone. The active EQ is great & The pickups give you a versatile variety of sounds. I took the controls plate off right away, so I don't know what the 3 way switch does exactly. I hear some difference in tone, but, I'll have to look into & play w/ that some more. The instrument does come w/ a battery, in case you were wondering. I definitely can recommend this to anyone looking to venture into the 6 string foray. My expectations weren't too high, but they were exceeded plenty. Now, to go learn the nuances of this beast! ... show more

  • Great value, overall excellent build quality, and features.
The build quality is impressive in terms of price, with one exception. The bridge should be more accurately aligned, allowing the strings to align better with the pickups.

  • Ibanez SR306EB 6 String Electric Bass
Beautiful, light weight, sleek. Though I haven't played it yet, because I just received it, but as soon as I get the rest of the equipment I ordered with it I'll be off to the races with it. It's been awhile since I've played, but I'm sure it'll be just like riding a bike!!!
