  • Excellent tone and playability for the price!
I was very impressed with how this guitar looks, sounds and plays, especially considering the price. If you're looking to get into the semi-hollow body class of guitars, you can't go wrong. The neck and frets are very smooth and the pickups do not feedback, even at a very loud volume, which is not the case with a lot of semi-hollow body guitars. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Well made Guitar; Rivals Epiphone hollow body
GREAT, Versatile Guitar. Much like the Epiphone, but not as pricey. Pickups are strong humbuckers, with the edge for clean rock or blues. Jazz sounding neck pickup, so this works for me as a versatile guitar. Neck is very easy to play, much like a Les Paul neck. Because of its size, wouldn't be good for a younger person who is a beginner but 14 and upwards I would say yes, great beginner/Intermediate even pro on a budget guitar. ... show more

  • Looks, feels, and sounds great
Great looking guitar with great feel and great sound right out of the box. Holds tune well and intonation is spot-on without any modifications. Pickups sound great (For this price point), but advanced players will likely want to seek an upgrade. Impressive craftsmanship for the price.

  • 4 Stars
Ibanez builds some very nice instruments for the price point. The AS73 is a semi-hollow inspired by the Gibson ES335 family. It has a slightly smaller, slimmer body that weighs a lot less than the Gibson and is more comfortable to play. Not to mention the pricing at about 1/10th of the Gibson. The neck has a slim, comfy profile and the frets are as smooth as glass. Very nice feel. Mine was perfectly set up right out of the box. As with most Asian guitars, the finish is impeccable. It sounds okay, but not inspirational. The problem is the pickups. Ibanez uses pickups sourced in-house and they are terrible. Turn the volume knobs beyond about 7 and the neck pickup goes to mush, while the bridge gets crackly. There aren't very many useful tones in between, either. Be prepared to swap out the pickups with something more suitable (I like Duncan Phat Cats) if you want to realize the full potential of the guitar. ... show more

  • Great guitar for beginners
I love this guitar! It has a warm, rich sound, and the semi-hollow body makes it resonate really nicely. I can practice without an amp and still hear it well, and it's quiet enough that it won't bother my house-mates. Planning on getting a professional setup done soon, but already it plays like butter. Much better than the cheap $60 guitar I was practicing on before. This is a great guitar for beginners, and looks stylish too, so you can wield it proudly when you go on stage, unlike some cheaper guitars that look like toys. I'm sure I'll get a lot of mileage out of it. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Great guitar
This guitar is amazing! It sounds and feels great. The only thing I don't like is that the strap button is on the very back so I had to get a locking strap because it kept popping off. I love it! Update: I have played this guitar almost every day for close to a year now. I still love it. It sounds great, feels great, looks great. It's my favorite out of the guitars I own. ... show more

  • Just flow with it and it’s bound to meet your expectations
Definitely a blues guitar it has that jazz twang and smooth playing no lacking in the higher notes while it holds consistent bass appeal. Great for intermediate musicians while it’s naturally inviting to blues/jazz beginners.

  • Probably should have bought locally
Ordered the guitar via Amazon rather than buying for same price at local guitar outlet. The guitar arrived quickly and is beautiful. Unfortunately the action is too high (easy fix) and the frets are incredibly gritty. I’ve contacted seller to see if they have an alternative. If not I’ll take to local shop and pay the $80-100 for a fret polish and pro set up. Something I assume they’d offer at no charge had I bought it there. Overall the Ibanez is everything I expected and more. Beautiful wood and finish. Quality neck. Far superior to an Epiphone (in my opinion) that costs more. I’m sure once set up this little guitar will become a favorite. If you don’t have resources to do a fret dress and set up and are looking for a gig ready guitar, might be worth considering a local source. But by all means if you are looking at affordable hollow body guitars keep Ibanez on your list. ... show more
