They are very roomy and not at all tight in the waist on me and I am plus size ( 5'6, normally size 18 now some weight loss, so 16 and my XL's still fit) the fabric in a few is starting to wear after a year and a couple of pairs have developed small holes, but I could unknowingly have snagged them, after all, I do live in them. They really are great at temp regulation. I also bought 2 of the shirts. They are very comfortable also. I bought those in 2x as I'm a little bigger up top. The fit was spot on. Nice and loose with a great drape. The belt is non functional and decorative only some have mine have fallen out. It doesn't make any difference in how the fit Nice and long if you are taller, probably good for at least 5'9 in the xl, if the fit is good. May be a little long for a shorter person. I will continue to buy these as my old ones wear out. Get them, you will likely love them. Especially if you are a bit larger in legs. But get them large enough so they aren't tight. I love these pants - they are very nice looking, especially for loungers, nice enough to wear on long flights. They fit true to size in the waist, hips and legs, but they are about 1" too long (I'm 5'6"). I don't mind the length - I'd rather have them bunch at my ankles a tiny bit (and keep my ankles free from drafts) than be too short. Love these pajama pants!!! They are made of super soft material and are hassle free to clean. They do great in the washer and dryer, with no wrinkling or shrinking. I bought the XXL because I like baggy pj’s. The legs and tush area are nice and loose but the waist is still tight enough for them to stay up and not slouch.
