Description

HD POLARIZING FILM High Transparency & High Durability UV Absorbing Film 25% Greater Light Transmission than Standard Polarizing Film HD COATING 16-layer (both sides) Anti-Reflective Multi-Coating Water & Oil Repellent, Scratch & Stain Resistant HD FRAME Wide-Angle Lens Compatible Ultra Thin Frame Glass Mounted with High Pressure Press Technology COLOR AND CONTRAST ENHANCEMENT Light rays which are reflected by any surface can become polarised so polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. CIR-PL filters allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarising filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot.

  • It Works Fairly Well
The Hoya circular polarizer filter is sturdy and well-constructed and fits onto my Canon filter adapter very well. The polarizer is a little difficult to remove from the filter adapter. However, in following instructions posted in one of the Amazon reviews of this product to place filter and adapter in the palms of both hands and move hands together against the filter adapter and polarizer in opposite directions, I found it easy to separate the polarizer from the adapter. Since I currently only have one filter (i.e., this circular polarizer), for now I just leave the polarizer attached to the adapter and remove the filter with attached polarizer from the camera until I need to use the polarizer again. I'm still learning how to use this polarizer and what situations it works best in. It works well when there are reflective surfaces and glare--- for example, sunlight reflecting off of water. It also seems to enhance colors, such as a blue sky. But, it doesn't reduce lens flare as much as I had hoped, even when the camera is at a 90 degree angle away from a light source, especially a bright light source like the sun. This may be just my inexperience with the polarizer. There is a learning curve with it to determine where it works well and where it may be better to not use a filter at all. I would recommend this filter for anyone interested in using a circular polarizer in their photography. But, if you're unfamiliar with how a polarizer works, expect to do alot of experimenting with it. ... show more

  • It's a great filter but overpriced. Excellent quality, Solid metal construction.
Size: 77mm
Hoya has been providing me with great quality filters for many years. I use them in conjunction with B&W filters, as they have excellent quality. Why would one buy crappy filters to put on top quality lenses???

  • very good, a bit pricey
Size: 72mm
Seems top quality. A little vigneting at 200mm in the viewfinder but not noticeable when viewing image on screen. Very nice pop of green in plants; uneven blue shading in sky however; very nice polarizing of water to photograph near objects that are underwater. I am still experimenting with it but overall I find it most helpful for landscaping with green/sky (not too much sky space though or it will shade unevenly). I did not give it 5 stars because I think it is pricey for what it accomplishes - on the other hand, I followed the advice from others to purchase a high-quality filter to avoid downgrading the quality of your lens ... show more

  • Excellent quality and functionality
Excellent quality and functionality! Threads on my lens perfectly, and turns smoothly with just a little resistance. There is absolutely no wobble to it like 1 other reviewer said their unit had. It came with some fingerprints on it so even though it was sold as "new" I'd have say that was a lie because Hoya doesn't package their filters with any fingerprints or even a spec of dust in their plastic containers. The seller I bought it from will be reported. Other than that, it works very well, has almost no undesired reflections even when shooting toward the sun because of the multi-layer coatings, and it adjusts smoothly to dial in just the right amount of polarization for the shot I want. I'm ordering a similar priced B&W CPL filter and will compare them but from the reviews I've read so far I think this is the better deal for the same price. The B&W filter is a little more expensive but reviewers say it lets a little more light through so your shuttle speed isn't slowed quite as much. ... show more

  • Hoya HD - Unsurpassed Performance and Price
Size: 37mm
Hoya HD has been my choice for high quality filters for several years now, combining excellent technical performance with top of the line construction. And for the Hoya HD Circular Polarizer, optical performance is simply unsurpassed, providing industry leading extinction coefficients (how effectively the filter 'polarizes') along with in a class by itself visible light transmission (approximately 1 stop of light loss vs. 1-1/2 to 2 stops for competing brands) and very neutral color shading (neither warm nor cold). The HD line has significantly raised the already high bar, set by Hoya's Pro line, and though pricey (sometimes even approaching B+W, at least in list prices), the quality easily justifies the cost, and - unlike B+W, Heliopan and some of the other 'premium' brands - are frequently available with substantial discounts. Scratch resistance, smear/smudge resistance, cleanability are also excellent. When you invest the $$$ in high quality lenses it's flat out foolish to compromise performance with inferior filters. Hoya is the best there is, and fortunately they won't break the photographer's budget. ... show more

I love this filter. I've owned a lot of polarizers from cheap off-brands to fancy B+W models, and this Hoya HD is my favorite by far, simply because it's so easy to clean. Most polarizers do their job just fine (eliminating reflections and increasing saturation) without any degradation in image quality or sharpness. But most are also magnets for fingerprints and dirt, and are annoying to clean. This Hoya HD filter is different. It stays really clean, and fingerprints and gunk come off instantly with a LensPen or cleaning cloth. These things are also durable as hell. I've seen Hoya representatives bang on them with hammers and they don't have a scratch on them. (great marketing, by the way) The HD filters are on the expensive side, but they feel like a once in a lifetime-type purchase because they're so durable and easy to deal with. I would not bother with the even pricier HD3 models - this one seems like the perfect blend of performance and value. 3 very enthusiastic thumbs up! ... show more
