Description

Light rays which are reflected by any surface become polarised and polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camara lens. They allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also saturate colors and increase contrast. Polarizers come in two variations but have the same effect. Linear polarizers work with older camera meters; Circurlar polarizers are designed for today's newer split-beam metering systems used in auto focus cameras. Check your camera's manual. Hardened Glass: Hardened optical glass that has 4 times the breaking strength in ANSI standardized testing (ANSI Z80.3 : 2001) where a steel balls of varying size and weight were dropped from a height of 50 inches onto the glass. High Transparency Polarizing Film; The polarizing film is the same as that used in the latest high definition LCD TV screens. It has 25% higher light transmission than standard polarizing film used in current photographic filters. Hardened 8 Layer Waterproof Multi-Coating That is Scratch & Stain Resistant: Newly developed industry leading 8-layer multi-coating yields an average light transmission rate of 99.35% between 400 and 700nm (visible spectrum). These coatings greatly reduce reflections off the surface of the glass allowing you tocapture more light in your photos. As with all HOYA multi-coatings,HD HMC is applied in a furnace at high heat, bonding the coating to the

  • Great filter. Bad fulfillment by seller.
I bought this filter new. Why did I receive a used one? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ™‚๏ธ See the dust on the lens? That bothered me a bit, but there werenโ€™t any scratches and it feels like a good quality filter so Iโ€™m keeping it. 5 stars for the filter. 1 star for not sending me a brand new one. Bought this one from seller All in All Inc. ... show more

  • works well but not as strong as the B+W, but less color cast.
Overall I do like this filter. I feel like it has way less color cast than the B+W kaeseman cpol (which I used to own) and is easier to clean. I do not think it does as good a job a polarizing than that filter so there is always a trade-off.

  • Good choice
I'm new to filters, but I wanted a nice circular polarizer in the semi-affordable range, so I did a lot of searching and review reading and decided to go with this one. I really like it. It really makes outdoor shots look much better. Skies look bluer, clouds pop out more, it seemes to make snow photos look better too. I'm looking forward to using it with ocean shots soon and seeing if I can get it to see through the glare on the water. Using the LCD screen while turning the polarizer helps a lot in seeing how the shots will turn out. I just have to make sure not to leave it on indoors and make everything too dark. The first time I used it, it got stuck to the step up ring and I had to search how to get it off. A rubberband worked right away, so I keep one wrapped around the filter case in case I need it again. I uploaded a couple of photos I took with this filter to the customer gallery. ... show more

  • CONSIDER YOURSELF INFORMED. This is not the same HD ...
CONSIDER YOURSELF INFORMED. This is not the same HD filter as the one I purchased two years ago. I have held the two side by side and will say that they have reduced their quality standards. The two polarizers had the same model numbers and SKU numbers yet this filter purchased in 2017 is of less quality. its appears to be made from a lighter alloy and the black finish on it is matte not the same as the more glossy durable finish of the original filter that I purchased back in 2015. Another thing noticed is that the company changed addresses. They are now operating in a different area of Tokyo. I'm guessing the company is under new ownership and they are reducing manufacturing costs. This is just my finding from opening the package and inspecting build quality. I will post more after I take some sample images out in the field. ... show more

  • Good CPL for less
Many lenses and filters are obscenely overpriced. I suppose the Asians don't trust our money, who knows. This filter produced excellent results and was competitively priced. The threads don't stick and it has a knurled ring to make attaching/detaching it easier. It comes in a plastic clam-shell protective case. But I keep it on my lens 99% of the time. These filters lend themselves to even indoor lighting situations without degrading the image. I pretty much use CPL's rather than UV filters. These CPL filters are comprised of 2 filters, the one closest to the subject is a straight up linear polarizing filter, the one behind that is a quarter wave polarizing plate. Check Wikipedia for a great illustrative animated diagram that explains how they work. ... show more

  • The best filter for my expensive pro lens!
This is the most amazing filter I've ever used. I am using it on my pro-level AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G lens and it matches the pro quality of that fine lens. Why use an expensive multi-coated lens and put a cheap uncoated filter on it? I enjoy the fact that the multi-coating on the filter passes more light and reflects so little, thereby reducing or eliminating flare and ghosting from filter reflections. I also like the fact that the specially hardened glass provides protection to my expensive lens. The polarizing effect is stronger from this Cir. PL filter than other polarizers I've used. Noticeably better! I highly recommend Hoya filters! ... show more

  • Filter rings separated and no response from customer service
Having been a loyal customer of Hoya filters, it is very sad that I have to give this filter and more importantly the company's customer support a one star rating. On April 16th I sent the following email to their customer service: "On February 22, 2013 I purchased a Hoya 77mm HD Hardened Glass 8-layer Multi-Coated Circular Polarizing Filter for a vacation trip I am currently on in Italy. All my filters UV, Neutral density, etc for various lens are all Hoya and I have been very pleased with their performance. However yesterday while placing the CP filter on a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X116 Pro DX II Digital Zoom Lens (AF-S Motor) (for Nikon Cameras) lens the filter rings suddenly came apart. I re-inserted the brass ring and attempted to put the two rings back together. However, they did not snap into place correctly and now the rings will not move indepently from each other. Unfortunately I can not get them separated to try again. Please advise me what I should do." Unfortunately, I did not get a response. Not even a form letter acknowledging my email. Subsequently, I sent two other emails with no response. It is almost three weeks since my first email and I have concluded that Hoya's customer service does not exist. In order to reduce all the filters I normally carry, I had only taken this polarizing filter and several step up rings for all the zoom and fixed lens I travel with. Since I was getting ready to go on a 10 day cruise, I not only had to replace this filter but purchase a spare one in the event I had a repeat opportunity. The good news is I found a camera store near Piazza della Repubblia in Rome with both 77mm and 72mm filters. The bad news is there were both Hoya's. However, I parked my irritation with Hoya and bought both. So the irony is that Hoya's non-response resulted in my buying two new Hoya filters. In all my years of using polarizing filters, I have never had a one fall apart as this one did. I can not explain what happened other than mine must have been defective. The only other thought is that since these are "thin frame" style rings which reduces vignetting, they are by default susceptible to the rings separating. Never the less, my real disappointment is the lack or response from their customer service. Given that Tokina owns Hoya and I have another Tokina len Tokina AF 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 Pro D Macro Lens - Nikon Mount , I am terrified that I may have the same experience if I ever have an opportunity with their lens. ... show more
