  • Worthy of the praise but not perfect

3.75 I'm going to avoid all the good things you've heard and target the bad. This game could've been amazing! -Time trials. I don't hate them, there's just too many. Take 10 of them away and replace with another location area and boss race. I would've even spent an extra $10 for that alone. -Multiplayer. It's a mess. Any track a user has made will show up as an option to play...and a lot of them shouldn't be there. I blame this less on the trophy achievements and more on the developers for not having an option to create tracks without making them public. You'll also end up in lobbies with people who aren't even playing. So you're at the starting line and boost into a vehicle. Or you're coming around the lap and have to avoid cars that are just sitting idle. Hope you can make up that time you lost! Want to change vehicles before the next race? Good luck with that. The option is there but you don't even get a chance to from what I've seen. *This last bit isn't really calculated in my rating because it's the universal issue that money creates, but the basement would be awesome if it was utilized in a PS Home kind of way. I want to walk around and be able to interact with the elements. Invite friends to the space. The pool table. The jukebox. The arcade machines. The TV. My cars in the display cases. It's cool that how you design the space will show up in some races but it's almost like if I can't do all those things I mentioned with it then why bother. So much more could be done if people worked together and without the limits the system confines us to.. But this is me just imagining how great it could be. Which may be more than most people care about from - in this case - a single game such as this. I just tend to look at everything in a bigger picture. Great game with the potential to be so much more. ... show more

  • Pretty decent arcade racer
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
I grew up playing a bunch of racing games. That being Hot wheels turbo racing. After picking this copy up I noticed a lot of the toy cars were rather real toy cars rather than the past game I grew up playing. I love the customization in the game. They are basic but fits well with the hot wheels cars. The car physics/controls are arcade like and "toy like" takes some time to get used to. I honestly am not a fan of it but I did get used to it. The other thing I didn't like was the coin based of unlocking cars. It takes a LONG time to get yourself a cars. There's a "career" arcade mode but those usually give you some coins, a few times a free random car or parts to upgrade but it does seem pretty short of a arcade career mode. It makes the game grundy having you to race a bunch of times forcefully making it tedious. I still haven't gotten my favorite car. That's the only main upsetting part of this. It's a good racer but with a few flaws. I do hope they add more cars. Some are good some are not worth using. The maps in the game are generic there's about 6 types of background scenery's while the tracks have variety of different courses. Most of the tracks are fun. I do like the idea of a track editor. Overall it's a decent game could be a 40 dollar game but 50 is fine. ... show more

  • Fun game but very micro-transactiony
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
You feel left out if you don’t buy into the DLC and season passes. The season passes are expensive plus it makes you want to spend all your money on cars that don’t particularly change the game for you. It can also be very grindy due to the rewards. Graphics are great, good soundtrack. The campaign is confusing to me as I hit blocked progression. It tells me what I need to do to unlock it but there’s so many challenges that I don’t know where to find the event it asks to win. So I am stuck from finishing the map. ... show more

  • Super fun for the whole family.
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
Family of 5 here, ages 5-42. We all love it. It is funny to watch the kids learn to steer and the trash talk is hilarious. I overheard my youngest telling his brother to “Get outta my way granny” the other day. The hubby and I even like to race a bit after the kids go to bed…. The loser has to do the dishes. 😉 Good innocent family fun. ... show more

  • Its fine. A bit too hard for kids, if that's target audience.
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4 Edition: Standard
I was really hoping my kid would love this game. Its pretty unbalanced and frustrating for kids, even with the AI set to easy. As an adult with years of gaming experience, I was able to overcome most of the challenges, but even then, there were a few Time Trials I had trouble with. The track builder is horrid. Not that the tracks themselves don't work, or that there isn't the possibility to make cool tracks or anything, but the tool itself is really poorly designed and confusing. It is not intuitive at all. There were many occasions where my kid would come to me saying the track wont save, or whatever and its because it let him build invalid tracks with missing connections, etc. An hour later, he's asking me for help and I'm trying to edit it into a working track and it won't let me because it wants everything to connect the way it wants, but its not possible. So then I have to overhaul the whole thing just to fix one or two misplaced bits in the middle. For a track builder that is so robust, they really should have a better way to put things together, and save partial tracks to edit later, etc. The online multiplayer is WAY overly competitive, and clearly dominated by adults with nothing but time on their hands to pwn kids. The game itself is fine, if you're a teen or adult, but this really seems like it should be for kids. I guess I've just become the oblivious parent finally. ... show more
