  • Beautiful, informative and wonderfully written!
As an author, myself, I deeply appreciate and have fallen in love with this book. Kaplan's tone is relaxed, comfortable, friendly and so easy to read. The book is a beautiful combination of coffee table photo book, history text, philosophical examination, technical details and much more. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for as an amateur horologist. I cannot recommend it highly enough if you're looking to learn more about horology. ... show more

  • Awesome Watch Book
I own too many watch books, and certainly didn't need this one. Yet, I bought it and am glad I did. This is a wonderful book. Goes into technical details on the inner workings of the watch, but not too deep. Useful topics, great pictures. This one is a keeper.

  • A Very Useful Reference
I just started reading this book and am really enjoying it. I just bought my first Omega so I thought I should learn a little more about watches. I appreciate all of the detail and arcane facts. Lots of interesting history and useful information. Three-D diagrams were helpful in understanding how a mechanical watch works. The only shortcoming so far is that the footnotes, while enjoyable, are hard to read due to their size and type-face ... show more

  • Excellent Book
This historical text on the origins of horology and timepieces is a masterpiece for any watch enthusiast like myself. Written in a text accessible to the average reader, it isn’t full of technical jargon that would render it inappropriate for the coffee table. Great illustrations and high-quality production overall. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Used product was sent, I paid for new product, very disappointed,!
The media could not be loaded. The book was obviously used, it even had a used and written on book marker inside. It was just chucked in a box without wrapping of any kind. Very, very disappointed. Not satisfied with my purchase.

  • Great Stuff about how mechanical watches "work"
A better book than "The Wristwatch Handbook" (auth. Ryan Schmidt) when it comes to the actual workings of a "mechanical" watch. Other than the Breitling, Omega, and Rolex pictured doubt few of us would see it outside of some boardroom. I have two everyday watches. A Super Quartz that keeps "time" as good as anything "out there" (absolutely no mention) and an Aquaracer that I surf, swim, and actually dive with. I have a COSC certified Mido that is more interesting than half the watches he has pictured. Oh well, Should have just began, and stopped on the chapter with fashion watches. Didn't read to closely to pg. 150 /151. I want two. Excellent book. ... show more
